From DL-103r to Dyna17Dmk2...??
Thanks Dlwask, I forgot to ask about tracking performance. The 103R is perhaps the best tracking cartridge I've owned - amazing for a low tech conical stylus - how is the 17D in this respect? What about warp tracking with that tiny cantilever? The...
From DL-103r to Dyna17Dmk2...??
Dlwask - what about the relative bass/midbass balance of the two cartridges, is the 17D a leaner less robust cartridge? Or is it pretty similar to the 103R?
Tracking Force for Denon DL-103r
Completely agree that the 'right' tracking force will probably vary from cartridge to cartridge. Arm setup, temperature etc will all have some influence. Even so, there is a pretty big difference between my setting of 2.1g and the 2.75g used by Tw...
Tracking Force for Denon DL-103r
Nope, I haven't read the review, but I will.Your high VTF setting is completely at odds with what I hear in my system - perhaps this is arm dependent?? I've actually got my 103R backed off to under 2.1g now (by the Shure's reading), which is how I...
Tracking Force for Denon DL-103r
Well, in my system, the best sound has well and truly left the building waaaay before 2.75g or even 2.5g.Out of curiousity, what arm are you using?
Tracking Force for Denon DL-103r
Actually digital scales with 0.01g (claimed) accuracy are getting pretty cheap. I just bought one off ebay (new) for A$45, complete with 50g calibration weight. It should get here sometime next week and I'll be able to check the accuracy of the Shu...
Tracking Force for Denon DL-103r
I think this setting is critical for the 103R. If it is not set optimally, then it will sound like you're listening through a curtain. You will still get the great balance and timing that the 103R delivers, but not the considerable clarity, openne...
Setup Dynavector XV-1s on SME V help
It's years since I owned the SME-V, but when I looked at your pic it appears that the armtube may not be set correctly in the rest position. When positioned correctly with the supplied template, the arm is angled more towards the platter ie not st...
Anyone using the Clear Audio Virtuoso Wood?
Exactly what is that 70's Kenwood phonostage? I'd be very surprised if you couldn't make some substantial improvement in this department. The world seems to be awash with great sounding inexpensive phono stages at the moment. The phono link is vit...
Is the Kab Speedstrobe necessary with the VPI SDS?
I agree Shane. Its got me beat why Harry doesn't supply a strobe disc that includes 50Hz markings - at least for export to England/Australia etc. The strobe disc that came with my SDS is the same one supplied 14yrs previously with my TNT - totally...
Was your first cartridge relatively expensive?
12-29-05: DazzdaxThe Denon DL-103 is a very fairly priced cartridge. It is also capable of giving very satisfactory sonic results. But it is not a beginners cartridge, because it can sound good only with heavy and very heavy arms. This is not true....
Possible stylus damage to my DenonDL103
Unfortuately your cartridge won't deliver optimum performance once the cantilever has been damaged. Even if the cantilever is bent back to position and appears undamaged, who knows how the coils on the other end are now positioned in the magnetic ...
