Cartridge for Graham 1.5
Regarding matching of the Jubilee to the 1.5 - I've tested the resonant frequencies with the HFN&RR test record and get a nearly ideal 10-11Hz for vertical and horizontal resonant frequencies. The cartridge is very well behaved in the Graham.A...
Cartridge for Graham 1.5
I have the Graham 1.5T (on a VPI TNT) and have been using the Ortofon Jubilee for the last 10 months. Great sounding cartridge and a big step up from the Crown Jewel (aka shelter 501) which I used for a few years. The Jubilee sounds full bodied, r...
Phantom B44 vs The SME V Tone Arm
For me the choice would be simple.Of these two, only the Graham gives you the full adjustability that a top quality cartridge demands. The SME-V assumes that the cartridge/cantilever/stylus is perfectly aligned....unfortunately this is rarely the ...
Ortofon Jubilee and Graham 2.1 ?
Yes, many factors can determine the loading preference. I've been playing a bit with arm damping and VTF (currently using 2.2g) and my preference has reverted to 47ohms for now - 100ohms also sounds better than before. I probably still have less t...
Ortofon Jubilee and Graham 2.1 ?
Just to follow up on relative levels vs loading, I made the folowing quick calculations for the loadings available to me assuming the 5ohm DCR of the Jubilee (approximated to 2 decimal places):47Kohms = 0dB1K = -0.04dB470ohms = -0.09dB100ohms = -0...
Ortofon Jubilee and Graham 2.1 ?
The M14 phono is switchable for either 54/60dB of gain.I'm using the 60dB setting and it's fine with the Jubilee loaded at 22ohms in my system. The drop in loudness level from, say, 100ohms to 22ohms is quite audible - but its not really that big,...
Ortofon Jubilee and Graham 2.1 ?
I'm currently using the Jubilee on a Graham 1.5T and it sounds fantastic. It's also a better mechanical match for the Graham (11g effective mass) than predicted by the relatively high 16cu compliance. I get a lateral resonance of 10Hz and a vertic...
Tracking Force Gauges
Opalchip said:"BTW - in my own experience, subtle changes in antiskate have a larger effect on sonics than equally subtle changes in VTF. Everyone's different, but I need about two tenths of a gram change in VTF to hear a really significant change...
Baby Koetsus? ie, Poor Mans Koetsu
Gee, you don't want much...Koetsu sound for $250?? I've not heard the Koetsu Black, but for $250 the Denon 103R maybe your best bet. I read here (or at VA) that someone actually prefered it to the Black.....but who knows what the circumstances wer...
Shelter 90X Tracking Force
Agree with John Tracy above, you can build a copy of Wally Malewicz's 'ladder' for less than a dollar. All you need is a cheap 50c plastic ruler and a plastic bolt/nuts. Can be made in 15 minutes with very basic tools. Here's Wally's original.Here'...
What is distortion due to?
Dolifant, when you say:" I checked and did not have a twist in the wire. I increased my VTF to 2.2g, using a digital guage placed on top of the platter"- do you mean you placed the cartridge directly onto the digital scale? If so, the indication on...
Tracking Force for Denon DL-103r
Well I made up the 'Wally' jig for my digital scale.I found that the digital meter was reading 2.02-2.03g consistently as long as care was taken with setup (the scales are very sensitive). This is within <0.05g of the Shure's reading (~2.06g), ...
Tracking Force for Denon DL-103r
Well, I'm a bit pissed with myself for stuffing up the initial measurement with the digital scale - ie didn't think of magnetic attraction from the cartridge. I want to rig up the little 'Wally' adapter so I can place the digital scale on the plat...
Tracking Force for Denon DL-103r
Be 'Shure' to read my follow-up on this issue:http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/vinyl/messages/517200.htmlMore investigation required.
Tracking Force for Denon DL-103r
An update on my VTF with the Denon 103R.I received my digital scale (50x0.01g) and have checked against the Shure SFG-2.Not even close!!Basically the Shure appears to be reading at least 0.3g too light! This actually puts me up close to Denon's re...
