Turntable/Arm in $1500-2000 Range
Thanks for the info. For what its worth, a dealer I spoke w/ that carries both OL and Michell recommended the Michell, w/ an OL arm. At this point, I think it comes down to another Gyro or a Spacedeck, or maybe the Eurolab.Terry
OL Silver vs SME 309
I obviously have no personal experience, but I note that a number of users on Audiogon and AA have reported good results w/ the Shelter & OL arms. You could do a search and find the comments. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out, whatev...
Looking to get TT
One other comment about your choices. If you are new to vinyl, one of the most difficult aspects will be the set-up. This can make or break your satisfaction w/ vinyl. This is a big reason to buy from a local dealer who knows how to set-up tables,...
OL Silver vs SME 309
Hi, At the risk of further exposing my ignorance on this site, compared w/ the experience of others above, and given that no one else has, I will offer (somewhat of) a defense of the SME, simply because I owned a Gyro SE/SME 309 combo for nearly a...
Amplifier match for MM de Capo i's
Hi, Yet another comment from me. I agree that one of the "problems" w/ the de Capos is that they are almost ruthlessly revealing, as trite as that sounds. I've been posting comments, questions and thoughts here and on AA the last few days relating...
Amplifier match for MM de Capo i's
Thanks. Can anyone explain "high output impedence" to me? What kinds of speakers would be appropriate w/ such an amp? While I've never heard the Cary integrated, my uneducated guess would have been that the Cary would be a little warmer and softer...
Amplifier match for MM de Capo i's
Hi, A follow-up and a question. While my VAC and Ref 3As are definitely a step-up from anything I've owned in the past, I find myself wanting even more dynamics and "naturalness" from my system. I've been leaning towards selling the de Capos and g...
Jadis Orchestra Reference vs. Cary SLI-80
Hi, I've had very good results w/ my VAC Avatar and de Capos.
Coincident vs Silverline vs Ref 3a
Hi, Re: de Capos. I'm not sure what you mean by "low powered." I'm sure you could run the de Capos on 8-10 watts, maybe less, and they would sound fine. However, as I posted above in response to another thread, while I find that the de Capos are f...
Amplifier match for MM de Capo i's
Hi, I'm using a VAC Avatar w/ my de Capos. 27W in triode, 60 in ultralinear. I find that triode is fine, and preferable, w/ female vocals, most jazz and small classical groups. With the stock tubes, I almost never ran in UL because I didn't like t...
VPI Aries - either or question, please comment
Hi, Question about the Black Knight. I hope you won't be offended by my question, but when I heard the Scout recently, it seemed to have more drive/pace/rhythm than VPIs I've heard in the past. (I admit I'm basically an Anglo-phile when it comes t...
Need speaker suggestions please
I second the Reference 3A and Spendor suggestions. (Disclaimer -- I have my De Capos up for sale, but only if I can get the larger 3As or Spendor SP100s for a good price).
Audiomat Arpege Is it really that good ? Help
Hi, I own a VAC Avatar and just gave a rave review in response to another thread posted above. However, if I were buying another tube integrated, it probably would be an Audiomat. I have heard the Arpegee twice, w/ Reynaud and Equation speakers an...
which integrated?...
I've owned a VAC Avatar integrated for about a year and a half. Very good sounding w/ stock tubes; NOS tubes can take it to a different level. Plenty of gain/power for most speakers of 87-88 db or greater. With NOS tubes and good ancillary equipme...
Denon/Shelter with SME 309 and Ear 834P
Any recommndations on cable upgrades for the 309? Thanks.
