Re: streaming recommendations for newbie Thanks all. Much to consider. I'll update when I reach a decision but feel free to continue to leave suggestions. To throw out another consideration: My CD player is a Simaudio 340D. One reason I considered a separate DAC is to use it as an ex...
Help with Michell Techo Weight Thanks to all. I understand the general principle re: using the lighter weight, but my concern was my cartridge should be well within the range for the heavier weight according to Michell's instructions, and that I might have installed it wrong. I...
Help with Michell Techo Weight Thanks. I guess I ought to try that, but the instructions say the opposite, to use the heavier weight with heavier cartridges like the Clearaudio.TLH
Best speaker used under $1000 for piano rec. Thanks for all the responses. I've owned some of the speakers mentioned (Spendor, Totem, Ref. 3A) but wanted to consider other options. I might try a used pair of Dynaudios for a change. Would love to try Harbeths, but they seem to be far out of m...
Cheaper substitute for VAC Avatar? Hi, I actually had the Aronov before the VAC. Different speakers and other components, so hard to fully evaluate. My brother prefered the Aronov, but I thought the VAC was all-round better. The Aronov seemed to me to have deeper bass, but a little...
Cheaper substitute for VAC Avatar? Thanks for the advice. To the person who asked whether it was the EL34 amp, yes it was, and the base model, not the SE. FYI, if you heard it trying to drive large floorstanders with multiple drivers, it wouldn't surprise me if you were disappointe...
Magnepan tonearm Thanks to all. The arm sounds really good on the Systemdek, even with an inexpensive cartridge, but I my ears tell me its not quite set up ideally. I'm upgrading to a little better cartridge and will play around with setup some more once I get the...
$1500 bookshelf speakers with laid-back highs? Spendor SP3/1 speakers. Retail is a bit more, but probably could get a "demo" for around this price.
Belt for Micro Seiki turntable Thanks. I found via google a few places selling belts, but I've never dealt with any of them and wanted to make sure I was dealing with a reliable outfit.TLH
Clearaudio I owned the Virtuoso and also the Alpha (at separate times). Granted that I had them on different tables/arms, but the Virtuoso was much better, a great cartridge IMO.TLH
AVI Speakers - Any opinions or info Hi, I heard the Neutrons about 3 years ago. I have owned 2 pairs of Spendor S3/5s and heard the Harbeth P3s and my impression at the time was that I would take the Neutrons over the 3/5s or older P3s, thinking they were more extended and neutral b...
spendor 3/5 vs era vs avi vs vienna acoustics hayd Hi, I have owned two pairs of 3/5s and heard the AVI and VA. Your description of what you are looking for sounds to me just like the S3/5s, except that the bass is not quite flat to 60 hz. Particularly since you are already a Quad owner, I would t...
Michell motor is noisy:what to do? I wonder if the quality control has gone down at Michell. My Gyro motor was perfectly quite, but couple years later after I had "downsized" and bought a new Techo, I had problems w/ the motor as well. I had the same problem as Restock and was able...
Anyone using the Clear Audio Virtuoso Wood? Hi, I really liked the Clearaudio, esp. with jazz recordings. That was with a Michell Gyro/SME 309. I also had a Goldring Elite and VDH MC 10 at the time and the Clearaudio was the best of the bunch, resolving of low level detail, well integrated,...
Back into the Analog world Interesting question. Given that I've gone from a $4000 tube amp and several $2500-3000 speakers to an old NAD integrated and $500 speakers, its a little hard to compare. No doubt though that the Gyro/SME/Clearaudio was the best analog system I ow... |
