Anyone else using slugs instead of fuses? Comments on metals used and sound please Replaced 4 components with silver slugs. Amp, pre, DAC, FOZ sound expander and all I can say is WOW! Not minor. Better than tube rolling or power cord upgrades. Time to consider some additional protection options. 🤔
Anyone else using slugs instead of fuses? Comments on metals used and sound please @tweak1 yes I use a vise with pads to hold the rod, cut off with a hand grinder with a thin metal cut off disc. I finish the ends with a hand held knife sharpening belt sander with 220 grit. A fine blade hacksaw and fine file will work as well.
Anyone else using slugs instead of fuses? Comments on metals used and sound please @tweak1 here’s the link to the GSS silver rod sets. https://www.goldenstatesilver.com/products/4-gauge-rod-sets I do finish the ends to smooth out the roughness once cut with my knife sharpener sanding belt. I don’t spend alot of effort on the e...
Anyone else using slugs instead of fuses? Comments on metals used and sound please @lcherepkai my silver 4 ga silver rods from Golden Gate Silver arrived today. Cut to 20 mm and replaced my copper slug's. The silver sound excellent. More clarity and separation of instruments. The copper sounds very good but I would recommend s...
Revisiting Chinese Knockoff Cables @tweak1 Thanks…wow aren’t those Silver WW cables $3500+. So interesting how system dependent cables and tweaks can be. Maybe having several tube components make an impact on these IC’s warmth sound. Who knows just very happy the way they sound!
Revisiting Chinese Knockoff Cables I own both the Odin 2 silver and Odin Gold IC’s on 2 different systems and they are fantastic cables. Also use Valhalla Speaker cables and Odin Gold power cords and I have no interest in changing anytime soon. Gone are Viborg, Morrow and DH labs...
Shootout of Nos 6sn7 tubes @dlcockrum thought I would give an update on the Linlai E-6sn7 after 120+ hours. The strong bass has declined to be very average, the highs are bright and don’t sound real, and the midrange has declined and sounds muffled. It does sound better a...
Roon and Streaming Services I just switched from Tidal to Quboz and used Soundiiz to transfer my library and playlists. Worked great and easy to do. I think Quboz offers it for free but It was easier to just buy 1 month to get the full transfer service. I cancelled Sound...
Anyone else using slugs instead of fuses? Comments on metals used and sound please “AND PLEASE, THERE'S NO NEED TO COMMENT ON HOW FOOLISH IT IS TO BYPASS THE FUSE WITH SLUGS-----WE ALREADY KNOW---YOU'VE TOLD US EXHAUSTIVELY.” @lcherepkai WOW! No matter how bold or nice you ask the critics can’t help themselves. I use copper slu...
Supratek Owners Thread Supratek chrome model owners: I thought I would share that I came across some nice chrome domed tall guitar volume/balance knobs that look great on the preamps. I didn’t really care for the matte aluminum stock knobs. The only downside ,which is o...
Shootout of Nos 6sn7 tubes @dlcockrum I would not say the Linlai E-6sn7 has “Weaknesses” they are just subtle differences that I felt a few Nos tubes provided that I preferred. The Linlai’s are really an excellent new production tube. No Tung Sol’s RP’s for me just too pri...
Shootout of Nos 6sn7 tubes @dlcockrum my light bulb E-6SN7 LinLai pair arrived and have 80+ hours on them now. When I first played them they sounded quite bright with a booming bass and recessed dull midrange. I was ready to send them back but read they needed 50-100 hour...

Shootout of Nos 6sn7 tubes @dlcockrum ok update on Melz noise issue. Seller told me 30-40% of these older Melz tubes have noise issues due to old tin solder in the pins. He told me to heat each pin with a solder iron and get them hot enough to repair internal joints. He sai...
Shootout of Nos 6sn7 tubes @charliee ken-rad 7193 sounds interesting but I need less choices not more🤪. For $165 for a pair I am willing to give Linlai-E’s a go. I have not heard that these Linlai-E’s have had short life issues? Several well respected Amp makers now use ... |
