Intergrateds: Bryston,Creek,Naim,Musical Fidelity No pre outs as the Portal has no preamplifier section. It is about as basic an integrated as you'll find. It has four line inputs, tape out, volume control, balance control, bonding posts for one set of speakers and a pretty good headphone out. If...
Intergrateds: Bryston,Creek,Naim,Musical Fidelity The Portal Panache should definitely be on your list considering the sonic traits you mention. The only issue is no remote control. There are plenty of positive reviews listed at ecoustics.com. There is one change made to the amp since those revie...
How to upgrade a nondetachable power cord? I've done it both ways. Hard wiring the cable is by far the easier route but installing the IEC receptacle does allow more future flexability. Good luck and let us know how it works out.
My first impressions of my Portal Panache So have you upgraded the power cord yet?I've had my Panache for only a couple of weeks and concur with your observations as far as I can. Living in an apartment doesn't allow for full volume listening so my experience is primarily at low level. Th...
Power cord for my Portal Panache? I recently purchased a Panache here and am very pleased with the sound. I replaced the stock power cord with a 4 foot section of Belden 14 gauge cable with a hospital grade plug. I'm not a big believer in expensive power cords but do like to use a...
Paintings, Artwork, Poster's let's hear it. I decoate my listening room with original art work done by my daughter or grandson. My daughter did a painting reminiscent of Picasso (to me anyway) that is very nice to look at and always receives compliments. Behind the listening seat is a large...
Totem Rainmaker distortion?? Gmood1, my previous experience was with Paradigm. It worked just as you said except that I paid for the tweeter. They insisted I must have over driven the speakers which I doubt. My point is, if the speakers aren't even broken in yet, Trumpetbri s...
Totem Rainmaker distortion?? Wouldn't recommend opening speakers up if still under warranty.
Stupid Question-What's the best way to choose? What do you feel you're missing? It doesn't seem as if changing cables would make substantial improvements. Have a nice glass of wine and relax.Do wine enthusiasts argue over which type of wine glass is best?
Windows media player 10 No suggestions here but have been considering asking same question. I would like to move into the inevitable future but don't want to lose data.
Bananas Vs Spades??? Yes this has been gone over many times. I agree completely with Gmood1. Why put a possible source of degradation in the signal path? Doesn't signal purity make sense?
Vienna Acoustics Haydn Grand? Although I've heard some of the larger Vienna Acoustics speakes, I have not heard the Haydns. Thought the larger speakers were quite nice and looked seriously at the Bachs. That being said, you should definitely look at Totem monitors. I owned the...
Anyone rediscovering their old LP's? About a month ago I had the exact opposite revelation. We moved into an apartment temporarily and after lugging in the 300+ unused lps I started thinking. I decided they will never get listned to here so out they go. My wife, of all people, disagr...

The subjectivity of speaker quality I got a haircut the other day and the lady cutting spent an inordinate amount of time removing hair from inside my ears. Wow, amazing sonic improvement. Shaving my head next. |
