How tall should speakers be?
There was a thread here on decoupling speakers from the floor by setting them on plinths with an inert material between the speakers and plinths. I tried this and am amazed at the improvement in image and soundstage. My speakers are only 36 inches...
Company loyalty- What has been your favorite?
Resolution Audio and Thiel. Both for sound quality and customer service. I bought my RA CD-50 on ebay and when I contacted RA about a problem I was having with the remote control Jeff Kalt sent me a new remote control along with a new EPROM chip t...

Bel Canto Service and Customer Support Quality
Another shout out for Matt at Bel Canto. Excellent support.
Small integrated
PS Audio Trio C-100 is a decent little amp that will work well in your situation. The Bel Canto 300 series is another option.
$ 2500 ....Stay with Vandersteens ??...what else ?
Auditions in a dealer's show room are over rated. How can you know what any piece will sound like in your room, with your equipment? Listening to five or fifteen cuts in a showroom can lead to false impressions. My tried and true method is find a ...
one shot: KLH 17 or Large Advents?
There are two sets of Meadowlark Audio Kestrels currently listed here for $500. Excellent speakers for a small room. Easy to place with respectable bass performance and wonderful imaging. Neither of the sellers has any Audiogon feedback so caution...
Subwoofer vibration foot isolators????
Mine went up on a 3 inch thick Michigan maple block with excellent results. The block is coupled to the floor with heavy brass cones while the sub is decoupled from the block with sorbothane pads. The bass is much cleaner with better resolution bu...
Help with buzz / hum that's making me insane r
If you have a copy of Holly Cole's "Blame It On My Youth," the first cut has an excellent song to test sibilance. She sings "slip into silent slumber, sail on a silver mist, slowly but surely your senses will cease to exist." What a line for sibil...
Should an audio system be left on at all times?
When turning equipment off how far off does it go? Mine goes into a standby mode. If I turn on my cdp and eject a disc that has sat overnight the cd is warm. I'm figuring it's already warmed up. I believe the speakers require some movement for war...
Help with buzz / hum that's making me insane r
There are few amps that don't produce the hiss you describe if you are talking about getting your ear within six inches or less. The more efficient your speakers the more noticeable the hiss. There are two amps which come to mind that were dead qu...
Should an audio system be left on at all times?
My system is turned on only when in use. If I listen without waiting 15 minutes or so for warm up the sound is degraded during the first couple of songs. My experience says after 30 minutes there is no noticeable improvement. I think the rule of t...
Spkr, interconects, or power cable upgrade first?
As I agree with Ghosthouse that upgrading speaker cables first is the way to go, you have an even three-way split so far. And like Metrella I also prefer solid core speaker cables; they are the only type of cables that I hear a distinct improvemen...
Resloution Audio Opus 21
I also have tried SACD and left it behind due to the lack of music available (at least what I listen to). I have a Resolution Audio CD-50 which I find exceptional and can only imagine how much better the Opus 21 might be.
Top 5 guitar jams
Freebird? Really? That one drives me nuts. Only hear it on the car radio and can't switch it off fast enough.
