Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s? Hi Mike & Al, I'm thinking back to the late 70's & early 80's. We hand measured all our own drivers, we listened to each driver individually for beaming/dispersion characteristics, based upon the basics of each driver, we chose crosso...
Phono/preamp/amp chain. One of them tube the others SS. Which one? If you are asking for advice about which one for you???? It depends on what you are trying to achieve. This is all general and a given piece can make it all wrong...So, In general, If you are after that So called Tube Bloom and you have pieces th...
Do we really need anything more than 8" woofer and 1" tweeter for medium size room? Ok, to push the discussion a little further... In reality, you can design an 8 inch 2 way to be somewhere around 3db down at 35 hz and still go out to 2k to blend with a tweeter. Of course, every 8 cannot do this... Way back, I had a peerless w...
Do we really need anything more than 8" woofer and 1" tweeter for medium size room? Quote: The big unaddressed question from the OP is "What constitutes 'relatively clean'". At 85db in a mid-sized room, most 8" woofers are distorting horribly. The good news is that the ear isn't terribly sensitive at such low frequencies, so y...
Do we really need anything more than 8" woofer and 1" tweeter for medium size room? Hi Inna, In general, not absolutes... 8 inch woofers that go down well, don't go out well in the midrange. That's why you see so many 5 or 6 inch 2 ways, the smaller drivers go out in the midrange better. Again no absolutes, I have certainly se...
How loud in DB, Is "cranking it" Everyone has different tolerances, I like listening to small jazz ensembles or symphony at what I would say are "live" levels.... The problem is what is that? A live Rock concert can hit peaks of 124 db and 121 db is the normal threshold of pain...
Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s? This whole thread has gotten out of hand to me... I can accept that something very old can still sound good, but to put the idea forward that things have not progressed since 1930 is crazy! You know, I can still talk on my cell phone, I guess ph...
Audio research 100.2 any good ????? I made the recommendation for the Belles on the Thread that I posted here for Nesto719 to review. I agree, Belles is huge bang for the buck pieces. The Aria is 75 watts and the Coda that I posted above is over 300, both are excellent pieces.
Are there used/mint balanced pre-amp with a few unblanced inputs under $2000?? Looks like that you have mainly concentrated on Tube Pre's. I'm sure that you'll bet a lot of options..In Solid State, here are 3 Huge value pieces, all 3 can be had for less than your budget.Audio Research LS9Coda CP (has phono)Bel Canto Pre 2 ...
Is upgrading pre worth it? Its not close, if the funds are not a problem, I wouldn't blink to getting a good pre
Audio research 100.2 any good ????? There is a Coda CSI listed here on Agon right now.... Very nice integrated.
Audio research 100.2 any good ????? I personally would not have put any NAD in the league of a 100.2 either. Here is a thread asking about a couple of Integrateds... Read through it, a lot of good suggestions. https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/which-integrated-amp-would-you-pick
Audio research 100.2 any good ????? These are both good amps, as long as there is enough power, I'd rather listen to the Audio Research.... This model is a great sounding little amp, but its getting a bit old.
Recommendation for Improvement over McCormack DNA-225 Actually I would recommend that everyone try a different outlet. I've tried a few of the more affordable. You can hear improvements in a $40 to $200 outlet, So I don't call them snake oil....I also have power conditioning on my preamp and Dac, ...
Recommendation for Improvement over McCormack DNA-225 I do agree that a fuse and a new outlet can make a difference, but to send someone down this road which in net expense between an amp mod, new outlets and fuses vs getting a clearly better amp like the Coda or Pass makes no sense to me. You should... |
