Why isn't better quality used gear being made available? You have to keep at it. The good stuff is gone in days if not hours. I'm not really wanting and I still check the classifieds daily/hourly.
VAS MC One Transformer The load numbers look wrong, mine start at 3ohms and go up to 40ohms. I think a 100ohm load would have little gain. I'm of the 'I don't care' school and use the setting that sounds best.
Duelund Tinned Copper Speaker Cables I used 16g twin unterminated for a while and didn't think anything of them until I tried some Kimber 8PR and the word 'dark' came to mind when comparing the two. Maybe dark is wrong; they just weren't bright enough for me.
Phono Stage: Cornet3 vs Eros 2 vs Parasound Hint6 @martinman The complete tutorial is here: Parts list is on her website and you can find the board on eBay just search EAR 834 clone. Use the black board.
buying (NOS) tubes online On eBay, I make sure the seller tests with numbers (readings and minimums) and they have 100% feedback.
Phono Stage: Cornet3 vs Eros 2 vs Parasound Hint6 I think an upgraded EAR clone is nicer than a Cornet 3. I have about $600 in mine so it’s about three times the Cornet. I used the black board. The clone is very nice; can run with the big boys (I also have a Modwright PH9.0). The Cornet is not q...
Phono Stage, Tonearm, Cartridge Question - Which is the most important? Phono stage imo it’s the one thing that can be a legitimate bottleneck
Looking for a great phono pre-amp in the $1000 or less range Darlington Labs MP-7 IME, can run with phono stages in the $2k range.
Need help-Looking for A New MC cartridge IMO, it's hard to generalize carts because they are so system dependent. Phono stages can make them sound from thin to fat, as in SS vs. tubes. I had a Dynavector that was almost fatiguing on one stage sound great on the other stage. The carts y...
Rechecking Cartridge Alignment Just put the VPI tool on and check the stylus against the grid. If it lines up you are good to go. For azimuth I just eyeball it and adjust accordingly. I have the dual pivot so that helps.
Looking for a budget Step-up Transformer you might try these guys and see if they'll do something less expensive: https://www.orso-audio.com/products/lundahl-step-up-transformer-preamp Looks they are Lundahl dealers.
Looking for a budget Step-up Transformer Maybe look for a used Rothwell or whomever carries Lundahl.

Audiophilia: Is it the pursuit of audio excellence or just a desire to tinker. Thank you to the tinkerers and testers. Saves me from having to purchase everything.
Nice vintage $2k Turntable, cartridge, and phono stage You don't say if you are MM or MC. I would go with a nice used Thorens, a Darlington Labs MP-7, and whatever MM cart you can afford with what's left. Also what yogiboy said and maybe check out Micro-Seiki. |
