the table or the arm first?
Flg2001,I slightly misread your post. The RB300 is a good arm. I had one on a Rega P3 and was quite satisfied although the Koetsu Black cartridge I was using didn't hurt, either. What table are you contemplating buying?
the table or the arm first?
There isn't really enough information here. But if you have a good deal, then take it. You can always upgrade the arm later when you have more money.
ClearAudio Reference w/SME V Vs SME10 ?
I own an SME 20/2a. When I was choosing, the Clearaudio was certainly a candidate. There is no question that the Clearaudio has somewhat better visual aesthetics. But based on engineering, materials and performance I would recommend the 10. I like ...
New Turntable
There are many considerations for an analog front end...turntable, cartridge, cables, and phonoamp. Also, what platform are you willing and able to put you table on (i.e. do you have a suspended floor or a concrete pad?)?What type of music do you ...
Tube brightness and bias
From your description it seems that the filaments might be powered differently between the two monoblocks. You might try interchanging the tubes between the two units to see if this effect is associated with the tubes or with the other electronic c...
SF Power 2 remains sounding in standby mode ?
My tube amp also passes sounds when it is in standby mode. This is because the difference between operate and standby is a change from 550v across the power tubes to 300v (and not to zero like you might reasonably think). None of the other voltage...
Is your turntable spinning while you clamp down?
Based on experience, it is safer with respect to the LP, to turn the tt off while mounting the LP and clamping it. If you slip slightly the spinning platter can push the LP into the tone arm or out of your hands onto the stand or floor. Happens ra...
Is there a problem with setting VTF this way?
Perhaps the following quote might help:"...For since under the impulse of the same weight the greater radius from the centre moves the more rapidly, and there are three elements in the lever, the fulcrum, ... and the two weights, the one which cau...
I'm going back to tubes... a question for y'all
Rwbadley,I'm with you. After college I lost track of my great tube system and had modest solid state systems for many years. Also discovered "perfect sound forever" and lost interest in listening for lack of time and money. In the last couple of ye...
Need Help Subsonic Filters, where can I get one?
Hey goto...try WLabs. Ha ha.
Need help with Sutherland Ph.D. phonoamp
Steve,I am using an SME 20 with the IV.Vi arm.As an update, I have found that the PHD kept turning off because the threshold of the "music detector" which controls this was set too high. There is a pot inside which can easily be adjusted by hand a...
Why Don't People Search The Forum Archives?
Maybe we need an updated FAQ's section. Any volunteers?
Need help with Sutherland Ph.D. phonoamp
This preamp is still annoyingly turning off every half hour. So, after about every 1 1/3 of an LP side I need to clean the needle to give it enough noise to reset the clock and keep it going.I tried the 100 ohm loading but the bass was boomy and t...
Need help with Sutherland Ph.D. phonoamp
Thank you, Steve, for the reduction in entropy...I figured it was just a typo but your concern is very much appreciated. Thanks also for the new thread to puruse. In it, Albertporter says that he has found 1000 ohms to be the magic loading. Perhaps...
Need help with Sutherland Ph.D. phonoamp
Ed,No. Indeed I found it interesting and was just what I wanted. I guess I didn't quite do the right search of the archives before I started this new thread.Course, the famous lack of documentation which "comes" with Koetsu's doen't help. Many than...
