Turntable Hum
Have the phonocable wires from the tt been moved? Are they passing near a power supply or ac power cord? Try moving and rerouting the phonocable wires.Don't worry, buddy...We'll get you through this.
Nominations for Product of the Year
Wavestream Kinetics Phonoamp. Designed and hand made by Scott Franklin. I picked up the first production unit on Thanksgiving Day 2004 and it's fantastic.
Turntable, Vinyl help................please
The Music Hall is a good table and I think you will be pleased. The scratches on your records will not hurt anything except the sound. One thing, though...do you have a phonoamp or phono input on your amplifier? These days (versus 20 years ago), mo...
Passive Pre's--Placette RVC or Luminous Axiom
Sorry, but blanket answers about the performance in an unspecified system may result in answers that won't be correct for you. This will be particularly true if you play vinyl with a low output cartridge in which case there are tradeoffs to be mad...
Latest iPod Configuration -- Any New Hope?
I haven't listened critically to an iPod and don't own one. However, I own and have traveled extensively with a Creative Zen Touch and an iRiver iHP-120. Both these players support uncompressed WAV.I use the Zen to drive Etymotics ER-4P's and with...
Michell Gyro SE...Light or Heavy style Clamp??
The first time the record slipped and the spinning platter tossed it into the tone arm was the last time I changed a record without turning the TT off.

Lugnut, Please enjoy the music.
SACD VS Vinyl for Jazz and Classical
Unfortunately, I think if you are interested in accoustic music--especially complex classical symphonic works--then you will need to go to vinyl to get the best sound. I have auditioned some of the best digital players (and own a couple) but they ...
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
Lugnut--I wish you Happy Holidays and a strong future. Thanks for your many posts...I enjoy reading them.
Best $4000-$5000 loudspeaker
I would suggest used Aerial 10T's or Dunlavy SC-IVA's (not the IV's without the A) both of which are under $4k now. Both these speakers need room to breath, though, so your room size is a consideration.
Aesthetix Calypso vs. Conrad-Johnson Premier 17LS2
I have the CJ Premier 16 LS Series 2. The Calypso is superior in my system. The 16 has been disappointing in that it seems veiled compared to comparably-priced linestages such as the Calypso and the Nagra PL-P
Rocky return to vinyl
I agree...the turntable shouldn't be the problem here. Are you using the correct input (mc or mm) settings on the phono stage?
mp3 Player
I have the Zen Touch and am very satisfied with it. The sound quality is excellent for WAV files at 44.1 KHz and 16 bit.
Which table to choose - Rega P3 or Music Hall MM7
I had the P3 and was very pleased. There are mods to the tone arm, including an upgraded counter weight, which make it even better.
ClearAudio Reference w/SME V Vs SME10 ?
I agree...Your rack sounds like it will accommodate either turntable.Listen carefully to each one, preferrably in your own system for a few days, and buy the one that suites your priorities.
