CDP DAC advice I suggest you try out the PS Audio Digital Link III. I run it with the Oppo 980 and am very happy. 30 day in home trial if you buy from the website. God luck!
Is Jim Smith's Book"Get Better Sound"Best Book ? I recommend it. As I stated in my review here, it brings together many aspects of music reproduction. If a person has been reading everything and experimenting for years, it may not be new information. But, I learned a few things and saw a few thi...
Speaker wire guage for surround rear speakers You might consider Blue Jean Cable 12 gauge or 10 gauge twisted speaker wire. Reasonable pricing and rated for in-wall use if needed.
amp for ONKYO receiver There are three amps that come to mind. I don't know the current prices. I have used Outlaw M200 amps from my Onkyo TX-SR805 driving all the 5 speakers. I upgraded the front left and right amps but continue to use the M200 (now the M2200) for the ...
Frequency Range - Bookshelf Speakers Bob is right, again. I personally like subs. You can put the bass anywhere you want for the best integration and let the monitors handle the rest. It will depend on the monitor's drivers and crossover as to the quality of the midrange. Better that...
Subwoofer budget max $700: new vs used, brand? Bob is right on. I have the REL mini 108Q and it is great, to 30 Hz. It is a sealed design and is for smaller rooms. I have two Hsu subs, both great and integrate well with music. Your asymmetrical room is an advantage with subs because that may l...
Latest Earl Klugh album = Excellent SQ I agree. It's great to hear from him again after all these years. And, there are great musicians along with him.
Usher 6371 vs Von Schweikert VR4jr The VR-4JRs' bass is very real. I have used several test tones and re-calibrated RS SPL meters and plotted the frequency response. Of course it is room dependent, but from my listening seat there is bass flat to 25 Hz, -3 dB at 20 Hz and -6 dB at ...
Looking for info on headphones Headphones are even more individual than speakers. Each has a quality all their own. Mating them with a dedicated headphone amp is almost a necessity. I use Senn HD600 phones. I have a dedicated tube amp from ASL. I have played them through the Cr...
Usher 6371 vs Von Schweikert VR4jr I also went with the anti-cables bi-wired to the VR-4JRs from monoblocks. No doubt there is something better, but I have never owned a system that sounded better than this combination. I hope you have the same good fortune!
Which class d amp? Its more about synergy with your components, source through to the speakers. I am driving my VR-4JRs with Bel Canto IcePower monoblocks and they work very well together. It would help if you listed your other pieces.
HSU Research STF-1 Subwoofer for music? I own two Hsu subs. The VTF-3 Mk II is a very large one with very good output to 20 Hz and some at 16 Hz. It is used only for movies and HT, because I have large floor standing speakers in that room. I recently bought a Hsu VTF-1 which has very go...
Usher 6371 vs Von Schweikert VR4jr I understand your dilemma with audio stores. They are becoming rare and you take a chance on buying. I will say that the VR-4JRs are absolutely perfect in my system. I have used them in a home theater system with a VSA center, but, honestly, the t...
A/V recevier HDMI to TV, then Optical to DAC? I did much the same thing. I use a pre-amp with HT pass-through. The HDMI goes throught the AVR to the HDTV. Output from the DVD coax digital goes to the DAC which goes to an analog input on the pre-amp. Best of both worlds. I hope I understood yo...
Usher 6371 vs Von Schweikert VR4jr I listen to the same music, as well as New Jazz and Classical. The VSA VR-4JRs work very well for me. It is more important to consider the amplification-the amount of gain, the type (SS vs Class D vs Tube) and your room. That said, I have no desir... |
