720p vs 1080i
Thank you for the clarification. I meant to say that at 50" diagonal measurement displays or smaller, the differences between 720 and 1080 are insignificant. I did not mean at viewing distance. And, although most displays are good out of the box, ...
Speaker placement: Any difference for cd or vinyl?
I wish that both need the same speaker distance, but my phono has a slightly wider separation and so I sit slightly closer for digital than analog. Changing your seating position is all you may need, or nothing at all.
720p vs 1080i
I have a friend who is a certified ISF technician and has calibrated 1000's of televisions. I stand by his advise. At 50" or less there is no difference to the human eye between 720 and 1080. Larger than that and the difference MAY be apparent, or...
Help Anti Static Brush creates MORE static
I advise using an anti-static gun like the old Zerostat or the Milty. I use it every time I use a brush, even after deep cleaning. It zaps static electricity and is a worthwhile investment.
Good Bookshelf Speakers for a Hearing Loss?
I sympathize with your condition. Usually, high frequency hearing loss is noise-induced. It also brings with it an intolerance of accentuated high frequency sounds. This is very common, everything from loud concerts to factories. I have heard seve...
Good reciever to buy with phono stage
I am a big fan of Onkyo receivers. I have an 805 and it is fabulous for decoding many different formats, is reliable, and very user-friendly. The 606 is about $450 online, or you can put a little more into it and move up the food chain. I have use...
Internet Radio Hardware
Do you have a computer or laptop near your audio system? I have used my laptop through a USB DAC. I am using a PS Audio in one system and a Peachtree in another. Trends is an inexpensive one. I am having loads of fun. Any computer will do. Don't w...
Music Hall MMF 7.1...cartridge options?
I am skeptical about using a speed box with the 7.1 In my experience using a strobe disc the speed was absolutely perfect with no visible or audible variation. I even asked Music Direct about using the speed box and he said he would be happy to se...
Speaker cable improvements
I am a devoted fan of the anti-cables. Some hate them. I love them. You how it is. Everything is interdependent and the cables are just one link of the chain from source to your ears. At least they are worth a try and the money is refundable if yo...
Music Hall MMF 7.1...cartridge options?
I have loved my MMF 7.1 for several years and don't feel the need to change. The Eroica is a fine cartridge. I routinely check the speed by strobe disc and it is always perfect. The clamp works well. I believe it is a great intro into vinyl for a ...
PS audio digital link 3 or similiar Dac
I can speak to the PS Audio DLIII. It presents a wonderful soundstage, a warm presentation, a realistic voicing for string instruments, and a great broad frequency response. I love it. Good luck.
Mellencamp on Music Business
Thanks for the link. My point of view may differ from the previous posts. I grew up with vinyl and still think it gives the best performance. CDs may have been a clever ploy to ensnare the masses but it gave us a portable medium which was better t...
Usher 6371 vs Von Schweikert VR4jr
Fin1Bxn,Did you test from one or more than one position? I found that moving even a few feet away from my sitting position dropped or raised the frequencies depending upon room nodes. The devil is in the details and the speaker is capable of going...
Best Pre/Pro for under a $1000 used?
To have all the latest codecs decoded I went with an Onkyo receiver and don't use the amps, but you can use them for the surround sound, center, or mains. Very cost-effective and high quality.
Has Anyone Criticized The Choice Of Your Cables?
Yes. Speltz Anti-Cables. Happens all the time.
