Fault in Complete Live at Village Vanguard 1961 CD I don't have the set you are asking about, but since you don't seem to be getting any response I'll tell you this in case it helps--I have the Coltrane 61 Village Vangard set and there are several places in this set where it sounds like there are ...
Can I expect to pay full retail for a new system? How refreshing it is (really!) to hear from Buyers out there with good advice and experience regarding discounting--rather than the mfgs and reviewers who more often than not say 'don't even ask for a discount'. Thank god for Audiogon!
The Search Tro....is right!
Taking audio too seriously? Hard to imagine Drubin how or why someone with your attitude towards music would ever get interested in audio to begin with.
I'm Looking For the Best Only trouble, is that concept (which is a real one)--'better than the best'. And that's what I have--I wouldn't settle for less, or even for best, as apparently you are willing to do.
Canadian Musicians Don't forget the old folkies Gordon Lightfoot and Ian and Sylvia!!!
Analog vs. CDP: A fair comparison? I agree with the others when they wonder if you already own lps, how many cds you have now, etc. The availability of software (lps) is a tough one. If you've never owned a turntable before, I'd suggest holding on to your Cary and buying a budget T...

Speaker Lifespan Speakers don't last as 'forever' as electronics, but, in my experience, damn near. My Vandersteens are 20 years old and going strong. I once had some advents that I sent the woofers to Florida for reconing. Far as I know the EX is still using them.
Lehman Black Cube or Grado PH-1 Preamp No experience either, but from just reading about them, the Lehman would be my choice.
Am I a burning out audiophile???? I agree with the "Krall-at-fault" posts. Try Ella in mono, try Coltrane, Beethoven...on down the road!
New room, very small .Speaker Placement??? Bass traps in the corners behind the speakers might help. I wouldn't trade in the Hales for monitors--I think it's better to try to deal with the problems an excellent full range speaker may have than to give up 'real' bass for what a monitor can ...
Shipping vinyl in the summer heat Living in Tucson, I have decided not to order any lps in the summer. Even if the trucks are air conditioned, if they leave the package on your porch, it's toast (literally). Wait until xmas!
Vandersteen Quattro review in Stereophile "apples and oranges"?....The high-end goal of accurate reproduction of recorded music would seem to be similar.
Longer Power Cords Sound better? Since frequency extension, at the top and at the bottom, is the watchword of true hifi (hence the name) I have found that simple EXTENSION CORDS available at ACE hardware (they are paying me to say this) do the best job. Cascading them makes it ev... |
