Is system synergy worth having matched components?
If you have a VAC Statement or ARC REF box  plugged into something other  than another one, maybe because you couldn't AFFORD it.
Will I benefit from a subwoofer with 20Hz speakers?
"I'm sorry but la Sphere looks too much like a next millennia Dalek." asvjerry- yes, I'm afraid la Sphere is a little much for my tastes. Tough to get it to fit with the decor, or get approval by the "boss." They look like something from Hef's ...
GOOD TUBES, BAD TUBES
"I re-tubed a McIntosh  MR-71 FM tuner with replacement tubes that were all NOS. It was expensive, but worth it. I used Telefunken tubes from the 1950's and 1960's, all bought from reputable online tube dealers." Scorpio1951- I use a 65 MR 71. 1...
Will I benefit from a subwoofer with 20Hz speakers?
"The speaker's published frequency response is 41-20,000Hz. I presume this is achieved in an anechoic chamber. In my room however, it goes down to 20Hz, at least according to the Dirac measurements. In fact, I needed to flatten the curve and  redu...
Electric cars will ruin late night listening?
Don’t worry, some audipreneur will develop a box that will quell perceived ill effects of the "new power grid" Their will be footer, fuses, cables and optional cryo treatment to go with it. Gloss black finish $1000 upcharge.
Speaker positioning: why do audiophiles neglect this so much?
"The problem with being a true audiophile is that you are always thinking something could sound better. Some people throw money at the problems others throw luck and money. I prefer to throw thought and as little money as I can get away with. One ...
Wilson Alexia - speaker placement question
"I can only keep the speakers 20-23 inches from the front wall." $50K speakers and you can't put them in an optimized position.  You probably  will get them to sound good in any location, but a speaker especially like  that deserves to at least ...
Sad to say I need a new amp…
Keep it and find a competent, tube amp tech. Mesa probably doesn't support it any longer. If a shop can get the schematic, there may be hope. You may get lucky and the replacement of a costly transformer(maybe not) or whatever isn't too cost proh...
Will the used tube amp market suffer?
YES! Anyone with one of those unique tube amps that must use ONLY/EXCLUSIVELY Russian tubes should sell their amps for 1/5 of its MSRP. It’s a terrible time to own a tube amp. ARC Reference,VAC Statement and Atmasphere owners also, should get r...
MM or HO MC Cartridge Choice-Input Please
I had a Rega P5-the next step up from the P3. Save yourself the hassle stay with the  Rega philosophy. That means simple. Get a Rega cartridge. 3 screws, set tracking force-done If your MC curious, then look at the Ania. Exact for MM While any o...
Speaker positioning: why do audiophiles neglect this so much?
A lot of setups are in dual purpose rooms. Systems in living spaces just aren't going to have speakers pushed into the room as they should be to breathe. If you can't have your speakers 4-6 feet out,  3-4 from sidewalls, you're possibly missing ...
Does carpet deaden the sound too much?
Everyone's room/ears are different. Definitely a YMMV topic. Damping/diffusion as needed. Just like cooking-salt/pepper to taste.
Remember the Electric Light Orchestra
Geez...11 year old thread. I guess the title says it all
Toilet Paper to Vacuum Tubes
"Fast forward to March 2022 - we are hoarding vacuum tubes." Should read.....YOU are hoarding vacuum tubes.  Sigh. Another unnecessary thread topic
Made in japan - Deep Purple
It's a common phenomena especially with some R&R recordings. If one were to imagine a typical live band setup, the drummer is center in the band lineup onstage. A right handed drummer will go thru his kit left to right-right being his floor ...
