lanx0003- Reality is if you don't have dedicated space-whatever sounds good to your ears. Equal side/front wall distance introduce SQ concerns?
Revox Straight Line Turntables
Looks like a price point 80's product. Most info appears to be in German, guessing it doesn't have a built in phonoamp. Being German, maybe a little "better" or  equal to a Pioneer "rack" unit from the same period.

Addition to the Cardas diagram. Just plug in dimensions. I find something between this and room 1/3rd's works in my room. Both are going to have the speaker dominate the real estate. For dedicated rooms only. I have a pair of ML panels 8' out in ...
U2 live. Music realism
Brutal  crowd up in here... U2 caught my attention for a brief moment-with "I will Follow" from the 1980 "Boy" album. Tapped out after hearing  it 20/day on the radio. Then Bono had to start opening his mouth with his "opinion" on things. Now "c...

Decent gear/speakers/recording are  nothing without location, location and location. That also means necessary embellishment-damping/diffusion per ear/software(for the perfectionists). We see it in the systems section-some layouts are a travesty....

YT video of a setup playing a live U2 concert...meh. Nothing heard that a $5K setup can't do. The owner has that in one speaker cable.
Lessons of youth
"Better yet, I've been talking to him about doing some minor 'upgrades' that he could afford but he's not really interested." Don't pollute an innocent mind and most definitely don't mention audio forums.
A suitable cart and possible practical tweaks for a Rega Planar 3...
Include the Audio Technica OC9 series in your search. Other than cart, time to consider a current generation Rega or something else. Modding that series of Rega is a waste of money that could go to a P6 which is considerably better. Used a modded...
Scansonic MB-2.5B vs Sonus Faber Lumina III
Based on the price point/choice, Scansonic appear to the more attractive choice based on spec/build/aesthetic. Lumina is in SF's "value" line and accordingly, is built as expected-offshore parts, maybe assembled in Italy? Haven't listened Luminam...
Adding a sub. - can i start with one?
daveinpa- as illustrated by hilde45's response to my comment  on JUST ONE sub.  Yes,no and....the poster who is compelled to go beyond with their "absoluteness." Sigh
Adding a sub. - can i start with one?
daveinpa- As you can see, asking a seemingly simple question will never get a simple response back. Yes, no and maybe but... A single sub properly setup will improve overall SQ-but it's subjective like EVERYTHING in audiophooland. 1:52 into the...
Billie or Ella? Maria or Renata? Technique or feeling?
Ella -straight ahead "Jazz"
Billie or Ella? Maria or Renata? Technique or feeling?
skyscraper-If  you just want to hear Ella in one of her best settings  that's only with piano or simple Jazz ensemble. Check out here Decca and early Verve output for some of her finest. The songbook/orchestra settings is what most people remember...
You're overbudget on gear, one more thing...
"I think one could locate their own "hot stamper" just by crate digging and doing your own comparison." bimmerman2- That's all it is-find multiple copies of the period release. Not so easy, if we're talking 50+ year old LP's. Most will be noisy/g...
You're overbudget on gear, one more thing...
clearthink- considering the amount some put into their rig, $100+ for an LP shouldn't be a big deal. I guess seeing that amount as a lump sum for what the collection is, might be unsettling for some. I get uncomfortable at the $20+ level.
