Anyone own a Pioneer Exclusive P3 ??
Great table. I think it had more torque than almost anything out there. The only table with more torque, that I know of, is/was the Technics SP10 MkIII.
Best Speakers under USD 2,000 Second Hand Price
The answer will depend on what other equipment you are using or planning to use, what room size you have, and what your goals are.
Pro's/Con's Of audiophile TT
I agree with Gregm. The Kenwood KD990 should be a good TT at its base. I personally have no experience with the 990. The 880 and the 1100 are nice tables which I have played around with. The 990, I believe (but someone else can probably say with m...
In over my head
I agree with Ckorody, but I have a different reason (despite the fact that I am becoming more of a vinyl person all of the time): if you are using a TT in your "office system", you are not really doing enough work and the extra time you have to se...
Tired of Problems with Tube Equipment
Just for kicks, and to test this thread, I dug out an ancient (well, it was 15+yrs old when I bought it) tube preamp, which I had not touched in a couple of years (27mos to be exact) since my last move, partly because it was boxed up waiting to go...
Tired of Problems with Tube Equipment
I have two tube power amps which have had no issues. Actually, on one amp out of a pair of VTL monoblocks, I have had a tube go (once in 7+yrs). My other amp is an EAR 859 which uses EL519 tubes (yes, out of TVs a few dozen years ago), and the tub...
Speaker for low volume listening with high WAF
I do not know your budget, or really the "unique elegant look" you need to deal with, or just what kind of size constraints you are dealing with, but if I were in your shoes, I would definitely take a look at the new "mini Magnepans" which got rav...
Redefining "Universal Player"
Tvad, you look at a digital output as understandable, because it is a transport which could use an external DAC. To others, a multi-silver-disc-playing box with an excellent DAC can be used as an external DAC when the next new silver disc or "tran...
JBL Summit L300 or Klipsch Cornwall for Jadis ?
Originally I was a stats fan, then I became a horn fan. I have real horns in my main system and Altec Model 19s in a second system. The JBL L300s definitely have the looks going for them. The Cornwalls (and the 19s) are probably a bit more sensiti...
Reliability issues with VTL amps/pre-amps
Hi. I am in my 7th or 8th year using my VTL MB450s (and I bought them used). They continue to be fine. Because I do not get enough hours on mine, I may not have the problems others have had, but so far, other than a couple of blown tubes after 4-5...
Micro Seiki RX-1500,3000,5000,8000 good or bad turntable?
Which double-knife-edge tonearm? SAEC? Micro? And which model?
Maximum Indifference Must Hear
Nice catch, and plaudits to Rx8man! I wish more people pointed out good/interesting/worth-a-look but largely unheralded music/acts on this site.Interesting group. I just listened to the tracks offered on the website. The influence of Rush is obvio...
ELP Laser Turntable & Trickle Down
Trickle down requires production scale benefits (scale which inspires competition, usually). I don't think we have come near that scale. I can count on very few hands the number of times I have seen units for sale. As for the number of people I kn...
Anyone here using vintage speakers?
In a second system, I have 1978 Altec Model 19s, driven by a turntable of similar vintage and an amp which is just a little bit younger. They are wonderful. And they are the best bang for buck I can think of in speakerland.
Best movies last two years
When he first showed up, I did not like Leonardo DiCaprio, but the last two movies of his I have seen have been great (Body of Lies, The Departed), and the ones before that were OK as well; Blood Diamond, The Aviator, and Catch Me If You Can.Agree...
