Best Headphones in $500 range for Leben 300X Thanks Swampwalker, guess my price info was a few years out of date, and unfortunately, that puts them over-budget for the OP. I think Hens' advice about the Head-fi site is a good one. As for good 'normal' headphones in that price range, my info ...
Best Headphones in $500 range for Leben 300X Just after I posted, I looked and there was a pair for $950. Wonder if this new pair is coincidence... :^). While I think they are great, and I haven't followed recent used market prices, I think they can probably be had for less if you wait a bit.
Best Headphones in $500 range for Leben 300X This won't be what you are expecting but that sounds like a perfect amp for some AKG K1000 earspeakers, which you would use not with the headphone input but with the speaker terminals. Originally they retailed for about $1000, but Headroom (headph...
phono pre amp giant killer? If you want your Seduction to have better WAF, well... These things take practice... In all seriousness, have you thought about building a different chassis? You could design/oder something from frontpanelexpress.com and do a lit of different thin...
Cary or VTL amps I expect your speakers may not need that much power. Another great (and IMHO, perhaps better) VTL is the Tiny Triodes. They don't come up for sale very often but they should be in that price range.
phono pre amp giant killer? My long disclaimer on the products is that:1) I have never built a kit, Bottlehead or other.2) I am about to because I just ordered a few things from them.3) So far, I have nothing but good things to say about Bottlehead and the community which in...
phono pre amp giant killer? For right around your budget, you could purchase and build a Bottlehead Seduction with C4S upgrade.
great sounding cds to audition new speakers Auditioning speakers in a system other than your own requires that you know exactly what the music is like - you need to know it intimately. I personally do not think I make a major decision like speakers without a) putting them in my system befor...
Tonearm/Cart Matching Assistance - SAEC 407/23 Raul, thanks. I last posted to the thread five and a half years ago. I have found that I prefer heavier-weight, lower compliance carts with the 407/23. I still use it quite a bit. I do not have the SAEC ceramic headshell. Mine didn't come with it,...
Best speaker for vocals Everyone's " the best speakers for vocals" will end up being "the best speakers", which tends to get messy.Personally, I think one of the great things about vocals are the nuances of a singer controlling his or her voice - how the singer manages d...
Effective Arm Mass: What's the right way to guess? Tfkaudio,Thanks for that. That's not a bad idea. Will it tell me what the frequency is? I am not sure that I can tell the difference between 8 and 12 by myself.
Has Anyone Criticized The Choice Of Your Cables? Ryder, given your last disclosure, it would seem that you already have a pretty good idea of what to think about about that person's opinion. A dealer with strong opinions who 'strongly advocates' what he carries is, well, just that. If you believ...
Effective Arm Mass: What's the right way to guess? Dertonarm, I think the formula you meant to write is the one I am using:I use F=159 / sqrt[(M(t) + M(a)) x Compliance]. My problem is that I have two unknowns because the mfr does not give either F(r) with a given compliance or a make reference to...
Micro Seiki MAX 282 Arm great photos Syntax. There was a Max-282 for sale on Audiogon for a while recently. They come up every now and then. To my recollection, the 282 looks exactly the same as the Max-237 but with a longer armpipe.
First Tube Amp: Advice? Keep spare tubes on hand? Whadja get? Is it an autobias amp or one you would have to bias yourself? If you have to do it yourself, you will NEED a multi-meter at some point, and/or a friend to guide you. If it is fully autobiased and the amp doesn't 'eat' tubes, what you r... |
