Help With My Next Upgrade Please Miked- Since you've used and mention a changer as a candidate, you should consider the CAL CL-10. Should be available used for $6-700, former stereophile Class B and sounds nice with by BAT/McCormack/Vandersteen set up.
help with speaker selection! You might give NHT superones a try (or if you can be convinced to include a sub, the superzeros are tiny and sound pretty nice. Unobtrusive plain paino black (or white) finish. With a small sub (NHT 8" for example)they make a nice full range set u...
S-Video Cable - is there much difference so far, my biggest problem with s-video is the connectors don't seem to stay tight. Have used low end audioquest, mit, and now mid price better cables.com. No major difference that I can see. Prices ranged from $20 used to $45 new/m.
P. Scan DVD Players and HDTV-ready TV's Dovetail- I also have a Loewe 16:9 Planus and have been contemplating the same issue. I have been told that the doubler in the Planus is better than just about any in-set doubler, but have never been able to do a comparison. I have also been told ...
Clueless on Bi-Wiring The how is pretty easy. The concept requires two sets (2 ea., + & -) of speaker cables connected at the amp end for each channel. 1 set (+ & -) is connected to the high freq drivers and 1 set to the bass driver. This can be accomplished vi...
Want Good Inexpensive RCA Video Cable Canare is pretty good and cheap ($25/m). Bettercables.com also has some good products. Will have to try the Belden co-ax w/ adapters.
Are dolby digital and AC-3 the same? Julpay- unless I am wrong the only practical difference is in the interconnects. AC-3 usually is output as an RF signal, I think, while DD is usually output as either toslink or digital co-ax. Could be wrong on this, tho.
RIAA Curve on LPs same for CDs? Sk- My CAL LC-10 has demphasis but it has never lit. I wonder if it was turned off in the software (bought it used) Can you provide a rock, bluegrass or folk type CD that was recorded (is that the right term?) with pre-emphasis so I can check this...
Do Dealers think it is sinful.......... Avnut- I would second (or is it third?)Jef and Mfgrep. If we use the dealers as an audition source and then buy from net its totally unfair to them. On the other hand, I also agree with everyone who says avoid that dealer like the plague. He is no...
CD Reconditioners Bsm- I bought a skip doctor. It was very poorly made. Cheap materials, very sloppy assembly. It barely operated from a mechanical standpoint, so I cannot comment on its effectiveness. Suggest you try one out in person; probably not a good net purc...
Wrong direction? Trelja- I haven't followed Stereophile in a while, but I think the qualification of Class C being affordable was more like it would could include affordable pieces that still bring some high end attributes, not that affordable gear only went into ...
Shopping CD players: my big adventure Dekay- if you need a changer, try the CAL CL-10. Not bad at all. I'd be interested in hearing a CL-10 with the Bel Canto but I just blew my upgrade budget on a Loewe TV.
Progressive DVD players? Robk- Jedisqueezer is not quite right. Your TV has to support progressive scan (420p, I think). HDTV is 1080i. Most HDTV's support 420p, and there are some TV's that do not support 1080i but will display a progressive scan picture.
Help deciding on DD/DTS Pre-amp Rich- I think you will want video switching, unless your monitor has lots of inputs. And then you may have to do the multiple remote thing, most universals will not switch video inputs on a TV. I saw a movie demo on the CAL unit (not sure model #)...
Surround Speaker wire Recs - WAF need Kitch29- glad to someone retains their sense of humor and doesn't take this so seriously. I can always use a chuckle on Fridays (and Sat.-Thurs also). |
