wow, a newbie power cord convert
Eldragon- I installed a Audible Illusions Missing Link AC cord to my CAL CL-10 CD and it seems to have had the same effect as you describe, when compared to the Sonic Horizons cord that was there previously. Although now that I think of it, I also...
Shipping hassles with FEDEX
Siddh- I've never had a problem with UPS or FEDEX. However, everything I've been told says that if you have a complaint about bad service, you document events in writing as Rockvirgo says, being polite, and then request specific action, i.e., reim...
Preamp new/used under $900
You should be able to buy a used BAT 3ki for about that price. I like mine. Reviewers have said it it neutral to a very slight shade dark (don't think tht is the same as cool, but definately not bright). Make sure it was built as a 3i, not an upgr...
Who R U?
Garfish- Its scary, two soil scientists on this site. I'm a 48 year old wetland/soil scientist; self-employed. I make my living digging holes and then tying little flags on trees (where the wetlands are, hence my screen name. I live in central CT ...
Best beadroom speaker under $350 (NHT?)
Used NHT Superzeros/w NHT 8" powered sub combo would be my recommendation. Should come in right around that number.
HELP Audiophiles!!!!
Oops, cancel that, I read your post incorrectly. Maybe when you take a signal out of the pre-amp out jacks, it cuts out the amp section completely. This is the case where there are jumpers between the two sections, and you pull them to take a pre-...
HELP Audiophiles!!!!
Maybe I am missing something, but it sounds as if you have no amplification for the MLs, they are hooked to the pre-amp outs. You would need to run the pre-out signal to a seperate power amp to drive the MLs. Then, if the Missions were not live, y...
Equipt. rack, ideas and sources
If you can work with hardwoods or black MDF, then Salamander Archetype racks provide infinite flexibility. Can be mounted on feet or two grades of casters. Each self has its own rubber isolation gaskets.
Is no reserve really the truth?
Sdcambell & Audiogon staff- I had a similar experience. I was high bidder (admittedly at a low price) on a pair of monoblock amps, listed with no reserve. When I checked back a day later, found that a reserve had been added in (above my bid). ...
Is no reserve really the truth?
Dtwomey- There is a difference between reserve and minimum bid. Reserve is hidden, minimum bid puts it out there to see so you don't have to waste your time. However, if the listing your taking about says starting at $1 and then there is a minimum...
Parasound vs. Mccormack, Bryston,Classe
I assume you mean you haven't selected a center and sub. You really need to have a center channel speaker. Most of the acoustic energy comes from the center channel. And even if your main speakers go down low (and I don't think Maggies do), the sp...
Amp/Pre-amp for Vandersteens
Thanks guys. I am going to go with the DNA 0.5 DLX (think I have a deal here on Audiogon). I will report back and then probably hold off on the preamp for a while.
Why so many Vandersteens for sale?
Agree with others. GReat speaker, easy to drive, sounds good with almost anything. You can have my 2cis when you pry them from my cold dead fingers.
preamp/system help
Agree with others on ARC SP9 MKII. Despite Sedond comments, everyone else (me included) loves the SP9. One is listed right here mint for $900. However, would note that unless you have vinyl, the great phono stage would sit unused (and adds to cost).
Ship to USA only?
I have had two successful purchases from Canada but I must say that Canada Post was positively glacial. Getting $C at Post Office not much of a problem. One seller was private, one a dealer. Both were OK
