Tube integrated amp less than 12" in depth?
The QA/QC on some ASL products has been variable, based on my experience AND posts on headfi where lots of folks use their headphone amps. If new with warranty you would be OK. How about the Cayin mod from Bizzybee? Anyone know the depth?
Making a Difference
Well,it seems that the Prez has stepped up to the plate, to the tune of $1.00 per citizen. Impressive, but more impressive would be if we could provide some manpower and logistic support, which is where the urgent need is now. Oh, I forgot, they'r...
Going HD - Should I dump DirectTV?
The cost factor is indeed one of the reasons. The Comcast box is a Motorola and is rentable for cheap. Considering the pace of technology change, that $850-$1000 vs $5/month is a considerable factor. Plus Comcast will give you the credit for tradi...
New Years Resolutions
Hi Sean- Happy 2005 to you and all the others here at my home away from home. My wife is naming you all as co-respondents in the divorce ;~). And marco and Newbee and all, please keep me laughing. As to the content of your post, Sean, I'm with Mt1...
Going HD - Should I dump DirectTV?
Actually, some of the providers (Comcast at least) has a combo HD/Tivo box, which is pretty damn good PQ. I have a Fujitsu Plasma with the combo box. The only downside for now is that its a single tuner box, but Comcast is rolling out a dual tuner...
Tube integrated amp less than 12" in depth?
86 dB, would IMO, be a little bit low on the sensitivity scale for a 12wpc amp, if you were looking for anything close to realistic volumes. But of course, a lot depends on music type. I am guessing you do not run the volume high in a home office....
Making a Difference
Good post, Jeff. Mercy Corps is another relief agency which is accepting web-based donations. According to their site, 91% of your donation goes into relief, only 9% to overhead. And now us folks on the American side of the border can get our gove...
Voltage regulation for Joule amps
Thanks, J. I will give that a try when my amp comes back from a trip to SC.:-( Unfortunately, something appears to have given out. See my other thread for details. http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1104378496&openmine&zzSwa...
Help me find a Simple Hi End Turntable
Although Doug, Metrella and Joe's advice is sound, I will also mention that the folks at SOTA set up my arm and cart, balanced it, etc., for a very nominal fee. They will also provide a refurbished, used table if you want. Donna and Kirk operate t...
Voltage regulation for Joule amps
Jsl- Rites? Not sure what that (those) are. My amp is a VZN-80, which I imagine is basically a half of a pair of VZN-160s. I am told it can be modified to a monoblock, but based on my room and ancillary equipment, I cannot imagine going any furthe...
Main fuse location on Joule VZN-80 MKIV
Yeah, Jud gave me the fuse location, but it is fine :-(. Guess its going back.
Problem with Supratek Preamp or Musetax Bidat DAC?
IIRC, the phono stage provides RIAA equalization and initial gain (to "line level"), before handing the signal off to the line stage. If so, then your line stage is working. 'course, I could be wrong.
Voltage regulation for Joule amps
I understand that the bias on the tubes will wander and I'm not too concerned about that. What I am concerned about is if the voltage wanders and the bias wanders and they both wander in the same direction, I will either end up with the tubes dram...
Keep equipement or trade?
I was a 1 until I found Audiogon. Now I am a 1.5. Not always looking for the latest and greatest, but keeping my out for great gear at good prices, in an effort to "move up the ladder".
