Preamp Help
YOu can't have both units "live". Switching inputs is one of the things a pre-amp does. You could go passive or active. you might fine that an active pre-amp makes the sound more dynamic, many people do. YMMV. There certainly must be input selecto...
The majic of early 1970's rock and it's influence-
I think you are right. I think our age is showing.
For Lugnut & Barb (Patrick & Barbara Malone)
Good to hear from you again, Pat. I was about to drop you a line and see how you were doing. Consider it dropped. Speaking for myself, I say rest, enjoy, get well, !@#$ the formalities. No apologies needed. Take care.
Who's got the best user name?
Awesome, Albert!

The Forte 4 IS a great amp and will cost you about 1/2 of what you wanted to spend, I think.
McCormack pres/amps and Steve's mods
You are right, Artg. I do have a Berning and other "true" OTLs. Still trying to make up my mind.

Ditto 4yanx comments about Steve Ms customer service and good advice. I've moved into a much more estoric beast (tube otls), but my 0.5 Rev A+ was a pretty damn impressive amp.

$2000 budget -- what to buy?
Well, he could do much worse than a used Classic and a pair of Linn speakers, that's for sure. How big a room will this be used in?
Preamp Deal of the Century
Jay- Mine Syrah does not have a gain switch. It was custom-configured with a mono-stereo blend switch. The umbilical can affect sound quality if it picks up some emi or rf noise, but what I was thinking of was in intermittent short/open connection...

Tapping the amp and hearing it in the speakers is a microphonics issue. How hard are you tapping? Don't know about the crackling, but I did have a problem with the power umbilical. When you move tubes around, you could be jiggling it. Make sure it...
Live from Austin, TX
I have the Tedeschi CD. Doesn't seem to be a barn-burner of a performance. I'm waiting for the Joss Stone show, which I saw part of on TV. Should be a keeper.
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
Thanks for the pix, guys. And thanks to you, Pat for keepin' 'em guessing!! Anything you can do that crosses up stereotypes has intrinsic value. BTW, is that lens flare or a halo over your wife's head?
Joule Electra VZN100 with Merlin VSM-MX.
Artg- I bought a used VZN-80, for about the same price as a used ZH-270. Seemed like a good deal, but since it only worked for about a week before buying the farm, maybe not. Jud won't have time to fix it til next month. If the Sonus Fabers (or yo...
