Speakers to hang on to for LIFE Or to the power of suggestion and visual cues. Same reason why I do not understand sinking megabucks into the audio portion of HT, if you are planning on watching movies. We are very visual animals.
Are High End Audio Products Unreliable? I agree w Larryi and also point out that if you are operating on the bleeding edge, then you have to expect more failures. Nascar or F1 engines only go 500-600 miles or less between rebuild and or junking. Fuel dragster engines maybe a mile or 2. ...
Impedance Matching - Tube Amp/Speakers SS has better bass control, speed and transients, but I expected that. Maybe better preamp could cover this area. While I am a big proponent of building a system around a great pre-amp, IMO, you are not going to get significant improvements in the ...
Any experiences with Modwright SWL9.0SE ??? At its price point, it would be very hard to beat, unless you are looking for a real "tubey" sound. I had one in my system for about 6 months when my VAC Ren pre was out for repair (about a 4X retail cost differential) and it was very enjoyable. P...
Can magnet placed beside cartridge damage a coil? Yep- Occum's razor rarely fails to cut through the BS.
Worth Going to 'THE SHOW' IN NYC IN APRIL OK, so how do we hook up? Mezmo- You're a local boy, where's a good watering hole?
What's your favorite lyric from a song? "There's something we need to discuss-Your husband's cheatin' on us"Matraca Berg
problems picking a HT system due to ohmage I wouldn't get too hung up on the difference between the impedance difference between a nominal 6 ohm and 8 ohm ratings. In real world, impedance (not ohmage) rating is less important than if there are significant variations across the entire freq...
Favorite 300B: Sophia vs KR Charles1dad- That be the beast (and I do mean beast...it made me recall the advice of one A'goner who said that the quality of a tube amp is very closely correlated to its weight, which, of course, correlates to the weight of its output xfrmrs.) W...
Audio Research, next upgrade? Assuming that your amp and speakers are a good match (I have no idea), then I would suggest getting the best pre-amp you can swing.
using my computer as a music server The answer to your question is yes, a music server or other computer source can match or beat a good transport. Suggest you search the forums, do some reading @ computeraudiphile.com and then check back here w specific questions.
Manufacturer checkups Not in my mind, if only for the shipping risk. If a phone call w the s/n does not indicate any possible problems or "unadvertised updates", I wouldn't do it, but I'm not all that anal about my gear.
Favorite 300B: Sophia vs KR Charles1dad- Pls send me an email msklein52@comcast.net, if you are interested in comparing the Takasukis and BTs to KR and/or AVVT We clones. I have a pair of each but my VAC takes 4 300bs, so they are "on the shelf" right now. With the need for ...
electrical short 1 channel. Cable spade at fault? Hayduke1- sorry, dude, but you are barking up the wrong tree. I know that it sucks to pay big $ for an amp repair. I did a dumb thing w a tube integrated and it cost me close to $1K for the repair, but it was my mistake so I took my lumps. You tel...
Speaker cables for Merlin Speakers I've been very happy using all JADE Audio Vermeil cables and interconnects w my MMes. I found the Cardas GRs to be a little "slow". Never tried the Clears. |
