Favorite 300B: Sophia vs KR
OK, my vendor for the Shuguang BTs says he has 2 quads; one w plate current 48 mA, one w plate current 80 mA. Any thoughts on which might be best in terms of reliability/compatability w the Ren circuit. Kevin said he needed more info on measuremen...
No sound coming from spekaers - turntable?
Your integrated does not have a phono stage (aka phono pre-amp) built in. As Uru975 says, the phono cart output (typically btween 0.1 and 5 millivolts) is much lower than line stage voltage (say from a cd player or tuner, typically about 1 - 2 vol...

Markus1299- Very interested in your results. I will tell you that I really liked the BT CV181s in place of the VAC branded 6SN7s. Phaelon- Good idea, I should have thought of that. I do know that Kevin says that the tubes must be fully WE original...
VAC Owners:Outboard Phono Stage?
Alonski- One of the advantages (or not) of the ZYX units is that there are no buttons or dials or loading choices. I think it was A. Salvatore who first brought it to the attention of U.S. 'philes and called it a very zen kind of product. No flash...

Phono cartridge left / right output voltage differ
Are you sure set-up is correct?
Vandersteen Model 5 speakers
As far as I know, yes.
VAC Owners:Outboard Phono Stage?
I've not compared tons of phono stages but I will say that when I owned a Ren Mk2, the internal MC phono easily beat the Rhea and Rhea Sig and was very similar to the Steelhead. However, you may want to consider an active gain stage phono or head ...

My Ren 30 has the VAC branded 300bs so I'm pretty sure that I've got some untapped potential. From what I've read from VAC, I am concerned about the Sophia RPs in the Ren circuit. At $2K to retube, I've gotta be sure that they are not gonna go "po...
Joule - Electra: Just How Hot??
AS a former owner, I'd would strongly advise against it. The amp itself is 9" high. The bottle on one of the output tubes is probably about 6". The amp would probably fit, but the tubes get VERY HOT and I would think it would be real fire hazard t...
Conrad Johnson Sonographe sa400 or McCormack DNA-1
+1 to the McCormack and also to Soix's comment on the 0.5 vs the 1 and getting one w the SmC upgrades. You will get great service from one of the really stand-up guys in the business when you deal w Steve McCormack.
Proceed HPA or Emotiva XPA2
Proceed will be difficult/impossible to service and if possible, very expensive. Do a search on Proceed or old Levinson/Madrigal gear to read about servicing issues.
Speaker noises
Can you describe the noise better? Is it a hum, a buzz, static, hiss, etc?
Subwoofer setup tips vs mfg recommendation
agree w above, but aligning a sub at the same acoustic center as your mains should help eliminate timing errors.
Are High End Audio Products Unreliable?
Charles1dad- You may have blown your chance to borrow my KRs and AVVTs ;-) Just kidding. Drop me an email if you are interested.
