frequency range for instrument vs speaker
Drew, thanks for your information. I certainly don't disagree that giving bass extension can help to improve midbass performance as well. However, I don't think that it would answer my question regarding playing music that contains fundamentals th...
frequency range for instrument vs speaker
Lloyde, I agree with you that there are definitely a lot of information below 40Hz in most music even though the natural fundamental of instruments used do not go below that. Technically classical music probably have more instruments that can be p...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
At least by one definition, all stereo equipments would be luxury good since none of them would be considered neccessity good. Magico just happened to be more luxurious than many others, I suppose :)As far as status symbol, hmmm... most of my coll...
Thoughts from THE Show, is $29k the new $10k?
PS when I first become interested in hifi gear in late 1980's,a great super amp costed around $5000-8000, may be only Jadis had something in excess of $10,000 that I could recalled.Only a few speakers were over $10,000 like Infinity IRS beta and s...
Thoughts from THE Show, is $29k the new $10k?
Peterayer, I understand your comment but I supposed I was not really trying to explain why the sound is bad at show. Just general observation that the sound is bad. Even equipments that I am familiar with and know what they are capable of, having ...
Thoughts from THE Show, is $29k the new $10k?
"I agree with Tpreaves. Excellent observation. Set up and "the room" are also frequently used at shows to excuse less than excellent sound."I wonder. Having been to only a few shows, however, some displayed systems that are a few hundred thouhsand...

A good thing I don't have BMW. God forbid I should become an audio yuppie!
Magico Q7 . . . wow
Audiofreak, you are arguing in circle here. You kept saying that Magico is way over price. So I mentioned some speakers from company that you like such as Wilson Benesch, Dynaudio which are roughly half the price of my Q3. If Q3 is truely overpric...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
I think that Q7 have this midrange/tweeter arrangement mainlybecause of the height of the speakers. With this arrangement, the tweeter would be much closer to ear level at sitting position. I would need to be almost standing up straight to listen ...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
Sonus, Wilson Benesch, Dynaudio are all very nice speakers. Haven't heard all of their speakers, but I heard ACT, C4, Amati Futura. I would not trade my Q3 for any of those. C1 I heard briefly and I am quite familiar with Q1 sound, again, no conte...
New Dynavector SUP 200
Thastu, unfortunately, I have not tried any of the SUTs that you mentioned. I tried running Koetsu directly into Aesthetix Io Eclipse as well as using Dynavector SUP200/Lamm LP2 and there is definitely no trace of brightness with SUP200/Lamm combi...
New Dynavector SUP 200
Thastum, I just saw that you use Aesthetix Io Eclipse. I thinkthat SUP200 may not be ideal. The Io with third stage removed, will give you 50 dB of gain. With 26dB from SUP200, that's 76 dB of gain for 0.3 mV
New Dynavector SUP 200
Thastum, I used mine with Coralstone as well. I only have Dyna DV 6A, Lyra Arion, Ortofon T100 and SUP200 to compare only. I am not sure what other SUT would work well with Coralstone though.
Magico Q7 . . . wow
Yes, Q5 is quite demanding but Q3? OK, Lamm M2.2 in low impedance mode with 220 watts into 4 ohms have absolutely no problem driving it (ok it is a hybrid). My local dealer tried Rogue monoblocks (120w, 150w? I can't remember exactly, into 8 ohms)...

Hmmmm....live music, as far as Jazz is concerned, I guess not. Let see, I went to an opera last night, will attend a piano recital this coming Thursday and a chamber concert next weekend. Does that count as live music? Oh, I also practice on my gr...
