Best sub for B&W matrix 805 If you can find a used B&W ASW-800 it will be a perfect match. The ASW-800 is the Matrix sub. For a REL, I would consider the Storm III at a minimum.
How best to spend 2500 CD player for my system? You can also pick up a separate DAC for audio, and use what you have now as a transport. Even a used Bel Canto DAC-1 for $650 will be a big improvement over what you have.
is there really a need for two subs? I agree with some of the comments above. There is a level you have to reach first before two is better than. Generally, one $1500 sub will out perform two $750 subs. Two really good subs will be even better. The sub does not have to do double duty...
Small Sub w/ Connectivity I think the REL Q201E is smaller (12 inches square), but more $$$.You should also consider the REL ST series (STratus, STorm, etc). More musical, but not as much slam for movies.
Another "what would you buy"preamp question..Sorry Was this a new model? Hum could be the tubes going bad among other possibilities.
Integrated Amp for Girlfriend? The Blue Circle CS is very new; but based on Gilberts other offerings, I am confident it will be nice.Other integrated amps to consider in that range is the Audio Refinement Complete; and the Creek 4340R or 4340R Mk2.The CS is not remote capable I...
Another "what would you buy"preamp question..Sorry Blue Circle has also come out with a variation on its excellent entry level BC21; called the BC21.1 (probably partially due to a shortage of new 6SN7 tubes). It really is a completely new model. It uses the same tubes as the BC3/BC3000/AG3000 (6922...
What's up with HDCD? Microsoft bought Pacific Microsonics. They own it all.
Best Integrated Tube Amp for 2.5K or Less Conrad Johnson makes a nice tube integrated amplifier; the CAV-50. You could get a brand new one for $2500.
Another "what would you buy"preamp question..Sorry It you like the BC3.1, then how about the Blue Circle BC3000, or AG3000?
Which lower price range CD player should I pick ? Go listen and choose for yourself. You could also talk to the guys at Spearit Sound (aka Northampton Audio). They sell the NAD, Cambridge, and Music Hall; so they could give you an idea how the sonic signatures compare. Which they think are best f...
Can old 78's be played on a Victrola? I agree with getting a cartridge that has a stylus for 78s. The Ortofon OM series has a 78 stylus available.
Is "Paypal "in legal trouble? PayPal has FDIC insurance on your cash balance, even though FDIC does not think they are a bank. They merged with X.COM a couple years ago. X.COM was a real bank, so the money must be held there. New York banking regulators have aleady ruled that ...
Do HDCDs sound terrible on non HDCD players? Since you do not have an HDCD decoder, those CDs are just a plain old vanilla CD to your Planet. They should play no different then any other CD. They might just be lousy sounding CDs.So back to your original question: No, HDCDs do not sound terri...
Do HDCDs sound terrible on non HDCD players? Sounds like it is the cables to me. I had similar results with Kimber and Audioquest when I demo's them a while back. Try a pair of Nordost Blue Heaven (used around $100 to $125). Or borrow some if you can. If out of your budget, then the Nordost ... |
