Audiophile considering HT Oh, my DVD player is an entry level Toshiba. Does what is needed and good quality. Toshiba pioneered the DVD player.
Audiophile considering HT For Speakers the B&W 600 series are excellent for the $$$. For even less the B&W 300 series are also very good. The bookself 302 that retails for around $250 is a stereophile recommended speaker. For a Dolby Digital receiver try an Onkyo. ...
Vans Evers: Good Cheap power devices? You can also take a Junior and connect it to regular power strip like the regular Companion, if your budget is between the Super Companion and Mike's high end stuff. If you eMail or call the company, you can get answers directly from Mike Vansever...
Vans Evers: Good Cheap power devices? Yes, I have a Super Companion on my mid-fi system in my den/office at home. It replaced a Monster 1000 I had that went to the TV/DVD setup. The Monster is very good, but the Vansevers was a lot better. Very quiet & darker backgroud for very li...

The fallacy of ac treatment Your post seems to acually validate that just a dedicated AC line is not enough, since our neighbors pollute the power in the same way our own appliances do if we do not have a dedicated line. My Vansevers power stuff makes a huge difference and i...
"Whose" Beethoven do you like? Gardiner and Hogwood have the ability to make the original instruments sound a lot fuller and robust than most other conductors in that format. I can listen to both of them even though I am not a fan at all of original instruments overall.
POWER: conditioners vs filters vs cords From my experience most "Brand Name" conditioners are living off their brand name and stopped innovating years ago. The Adcom ACE-515 I started with many years ago and have long since discarded originally came out around 1986, and the current mode...
"Whose" Beethoven do you like? I bought that Bernstein recording for my parents. They attended that concert at Tanglewood. It is a very unique (and very good) interpretation. Other than the Weller set I mentioned before, I also listen to the Kleiber 5 & 7 mentioned by other...
Yet another Hum problem There is the possibility the plugs on your interconnects are not terminated properly, and/or the cable connection inside the turntable. I had a similar problem once and re-terminating the connections solved it.
POWER: conditioners vs filters vs cords I started with Adcom ACE515, then went up to Monster stuff, and now have Vansevers conditioners and cords. Do not plan to upgrade again other than maybe demo a Vansevers "Unlimiter" which is a power center designed for power amps. As the name sugg...
"Whose" Beethoven do you like? PS: Read the review of the Birmingham/Weller/Chandos recording that is posted on Amazon.com (not David Hurwitz). I could not have put it better than this reviewer did.
"Whose" Beethoven do you like? Forget the usual suspects. I've heard them all. My favorite Beethoven Symphonies are the City of Birmingham Orchestra, conducted by Walter Weller. Released on Chandos label. CD set also includes a performance of the partially finished 10th symphon...
