CD Changer advice I agree. I guess my point was that we ususally spend a few hundred for a entry level transport. The Aiwa is as good as any entry level transport for $80. To make it a super transport you will need the Stan Warren mods. I have heard the player, I d...
McIntosh Dealers? I only seen them discount by giving an incredible deal on other brand equipment in the same deal if you buy more than one thing.
CD: 100+ Threads, no answers Since most CDs are not HDCD probably companies like Cambridge would rather keep the cost and price down than add HDCD. I find most HDCD I've heard are nice, but actually do not find the difference all that much when I play the CD on a non HDCD sys...
CD Changer advice See/Search for my earlier thread on Stan Warren at Supermod on Oregon. There is a Aiwa Changer that sells for $80 at Best Buy that amazingly makes an excellent transport unmodifed and a killer transport modified by Stan for something like $150 mor...
When is the Best Time to Sell Eqpt? I think between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a bad time because people are spending money elsewhere, and any audio gifts are most likely going to be new stuff. For a buyer it is a good time. I noticed that some no reserve Audiogon and eBay auctio...
Anyone Heard/Use API Power Wedge 116? If you are worried about limiting amp current and want a conditioner the Vansevers conditioners are very good. One model designed specifically for power amps is called of course "The Unlimiter"
Shipping from Canada to the U.S. UPS is a pain. Lots of paperwork for the shipper. It is also the one most likely to cost you a duty. The cheapest is the Canadian postal service. (Royal Mail ??)
CD player burn-in At least turn the Preamp on. 100 hours is good.
Toshiba DVD as transport, mods? See the thread on Stan Warren from Supermod. Don't think he does Toshiba mods (you can call him), but there is a $80 (new) Aiwa changer that he swears by even unmodified.
Horrific Confession and Question Danvetc is on to something. I have heard Bose in background situations and Pianos always sound pretty good. Right smack in the mids. Put on the Piano dentist office music and off you go.
Horrific Confession and Question Oh, the Monster power conditioner is a Stage 1 filtered HT400 that I paid $20 new on a clearance sale. So that makes the whole system $145. It sounds quite good considering.
Horrific Confession and Question Petland has a point. I have music playing in my outside work office all the time. It sounds great in there even thought the system if bought new would be under $500. I figure if it sounded really good I would be constantly distracted and would get...
DAC with HDCD function under usd1000 I believe the Cambridge Audio S700 has HDCD. It is also its own issolation platform.
Your Best Moment of Audio Exuberance Four years ago when I got into this hobby. I made a big jump from a mass market Onkyo CD Player and Receiver to a Cambridge Audio CD6 and a used P55 amplifier. I found out what I had been missing.
DIY Power Conditioner The PS Audio is the only Power Plant I know of. If possible, you could start with a dedicated AC power line and a new power cord for your amp. Both would later compliment the P300 once you save up the additional $$$$. |
