Cd storage..what's an audiophile to do? They have some very nice free standing (floor) CD shelf units at IKEA if there is one in your area. Or get their catalog.
Recievers versus separates Separates are more tweekable. Every separate component I have in my main system that is included with a receiver is a different brand. Did not start out this way, but by swapping different things over time. This includes things like trying differe...
need advice on cd player cleaners Ditto. I have never cleaned a lense on any CD player I have ever owned and have never had a problem.
Celibidache on DG or EMI? FYI, Celibidache did not believe in "studio" recordings. His recordings are all live concerts.
Best CD of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano C The Horowitz/Ormandy is one of the references Gramaphone Magazine uses to compare with others. Probably worth a listen.

Best CD of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano C I guess while you're at the store, pick up the original Rach recording of Rach playing numbers 1 and 4, also Ormandy / Philadelphia. RCA 6659-2-RC. (Or through Musical Heritage Society.) http://www.musicalheritage.com/
Which Rack Is Better? I like the Salamander Synergy racks. Easy to customize (lots of optional configurations).
Advice for the Budget 'Phile If you like Cambridge, the A3i that came before the A500 is a lot better and came with phono (not an add-on). It was designed by Michael Creek, so its like a 4330 with 20 more watts and phono for about $250 used. I have one in my den system and it...
Upgrading bose 301's .. the next step ? For the 805s to sound good, plan on spending $300 to $500 for decent stands. If we are talking used for 1k max then I would go for the original B&W CDM-1 or CDM-1NT (don't care for the CDM-1SE that came in between).
Best CD of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano C OK, I am back. I dad a date in Baltimore with three other Russians. Yuri Temirkanov conducting Shostakovich #7 and Sergei Babayan playing Bach Piano Concerto #1 (also Yuri conducting).I was not kidding about the old Rachmaninov recording. It is so...
Upgrading bose 301's .. the next step ? B&W DM602-S2 $600 new list. Not too much $ and is a big improvement over Bose. B&W 602s have great re-sell value if/when the next time you upgrade.
Celibidache on DG or EMI? I prefer some of the live EMI with his Munich orchestra. Some are recorded in analog (ADD) even though the early 1990s. More natural sounding than DDD. A lot of DG CDs are mixed poorly IMHO.
Best CD of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano C Best how?? There is a recording by Rachmaninoff. Sounds like crap considering it's 70 years old. Can't argue with the interpretation considering. I'll get back later with more. |
