more major players jumping on the sacd bandwagon
I am always looking for better sound, but it has to make economic sense for me. I hope it succeeds.
more major players jumping on the sacd bandwagon
We talk a lot about how you can play regular CDs on a SACD machine and they sound very good. How about the other way around. If SACD cannot be played on non SACD machines, then the whole world including Joe consumer will need a new CD player. Will...
more major players jumping on the sacd bandwagon
As far as the Betamax comparison and the Stereophile article; most to all major films were available on Betamax. This did nothing to save it. So more record labels producing SACD may prove nothing. It really comes down to whether Sony will share t...
more major players jumping on the sacd bandwagon
Well I just went to HMV and browse the entire catalog of available SACD and only found two I would buy even if I owned no CDs currently. However I happen to own those two on CD already and one of the two on LP as well. The redbook versions are exc...
Is a 12' X 16' room big enough for stereo?
Put in a vaulted ceiling if you can, or if not, one as high as possible.
REL Sub Woofer Tweaks
I am using a Vansevers 211 power cord. Big improvment over the stock cord.
SACD : why ?
I have been saying for quite a while that if any new format survives it will probably be DVD-A. First because is is just the natural progression of 16/44 redbook to 24/192. Secondly: Joe and Jane consumer are buying DVD players which will also pla...
CD Clubs -Press their own CD's?
I suggest you all read the Stereophile article linked above. It found no difference what-so-ever; and the testing done was substantial. This included mixing/combining the two CDs with the polarity reversed on one. If they are identical they will c...
24/96 or 24/192
Just make sure the two DAC chip are similar in quality. A great 24/96 chip will outperform a poor 24/192 chip, much like a Pentium III processsor runnning at 700 Mhz will run circles around an Intel Celeron runnning at 800 Mhz.
BW Nautilus 805, better to have them ported or sealed
Some B&W speakers with ports come with foam plugs you can insert in the port to adjust the bass output. I have a pair of CDM-1 and P5 and they both came with foam plugs for the ports. The foam is not a seal, just a reduction of the air flow.
Add-on improvement to analog-only CDP?
I have an old 85 vintage CDP I use in my work office. I found interconnects that smoothed out the sound considerably. Specifically the old MIT PC Squared. I found it interesting that an old (technology) pair of cables would make an old CDP sound g...
Phono section of ARC Sp6b went dead. What is the reason
Fuses? Tube gone bad?
Best smaller than bookshelf speakers?
What is you budget. Cambridge Soundworks also makes small satellites like Bose. Not expensive and better than Bose.
25 foot bi-wire speaker cables that won't bust the bank?
I have a 20 foot pair of MIT T2s BI-Wire from AudioAdvisor and they were a steal at 50% off list. They have some MH750 S2 BiWire at 50% off also, but probably not 25 feet.
why is belt drive better than direct drive?
Belt drive are generally quieter. As Celtic said, results may vary. I have a vintage Dual United Audio direct drive from the early 70s and it outperforms my Dual 505-2 belt drive.
