Best interconnects 2m for less than 200/pr used
You may have a hard time finding 2 Mtr Nordost Red Dawn for under $200. They list for $560 new. The Blue Heaven are also very nice for less (2Mtr new is $280). There is also Kimber Silver Streak that may be about $200 used for 2 Mtr (new is $400);...
Is it ALWAYS necessary to understand words of song?
I have some german and french David Bowie imports (Records). They have the same songs for the most part as the US releases, however David sings some of the songs in german (and french). Fun to listen to. I have a few more records that are similar ...
Superior sound from newer CD players?
Just because a DVD (or CD) player has a 24/96 DAC does not mean it sounds better. There are Chevy's with 16 value 4 cylinder engines, but that does not mean they perform like a BMW or Mercedes with the same basic engine configuration. It is the qu...
Setting memory setting switches on Onkyo T909 tuner
Onkyo's of that vintage usually have a "memory" button. You put on the station on you want; push the memory button and then the preset you want. I believe is is 56 presets. If your labels are worn off, then try differenct buttons, until you find t...
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
You could get a copy of Robert Harley's book, "The Complete Guide To High-End Audio". Lots of good information in there.
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
If some of your components are 2 prong instead of three, experiment with reversing them in the AC wall socket or the conditioner socket. Usually one way will sound better than the other.I don't do it, but some people will actually experiment with ...
What are the BEST FM Antennas HELP
I agree that Winegard is one of the best and a leader in the antenna business. A good on-line mail order source is Stark Electronic in Massachusetts. To find it you must be accurate, because Starkelectronics.com with the S at the end is a place in...
PayPal not as safe as everyone thinks?
Amazing. I went back to PayPal and they finally recognize that my old bank account is closed. It was not my main bank account at the time anyway. Would never post that on any website. It only had $100 in it at the time. I first told them I closed ...
Musical or scientific/technical background?
I perform in a professional chorus and I am also a very heavy concert goer. I have assembled my audio system(s) totally by ear. The techical stuff means very little to me. As Duke Ellington said: "If it sounds good, it is good".
Reliability
I have had great service from both Conrad Johnson and Onkyo USA for warranty repairs. They also were very helpful by phone and E-Mail. Reliability is only an issue with me if what I hear on the street is bad.
Avoid UPS Shipping To/From Canada
I also got charged extra by UPS for a shipment from Canada. It is no accident. I will only use US Mail and Candian Mail for cross border shipments. Fedex or US Mail within the US.
PayPal not as safe as everyone thinks?
eBay has there own system, Billpoint. Seems to work well and eBay monitors their members pretty good. I have read that some big banks like Citibank are looking at getting into this business. That should be more secure (I hope).
Mendelssohn's String Octect, op. 20, any suggestion?
If you have the I Musici 1966 recording, it is excellent. The Academy SMF is also top shelf, but the recording I am familiar with is on Phillips (420-400-2), not Argo. Another good one is the Cleveland and Meliora Quartets (Telarc CD-80142)
Is there anyone who came back from tubes to SS?
I listen to a lot of live music; and no matter what I've tried; or whenever I listen to another persons all tube system; it never sounds right to me. I've had CJ, Sonic Frontiers, and Blue Circle. I guess I could live with a tube pre, SS amp combo...
Anyone try Acoustic Research Pro cables?
They claim to be OFC copper. They were recently revamped with new packaging and colors. I needed a couple Y adapters for the HT system. It is hard to find decent ones other than the cheapos at Radio Shack. I was in Sears and found they had the old...
