Innersound ESL 300 Mark II. I previously had the Innersound preamp with the ESL-300 and found it transparent but lifeless. Changing the preamp changed things for the better.Michael
Innersound ESL 300 Mark II. I'm currently using a Marsh p2000t preamp in my system, and find that it provides a nice soundstage. And I agree, the Innersound is a great amp.Michael
Requesting input from iMac users I use the toslink out on my iMac to the DAC on a Music Hall Mambo integrated amp. It sounds just fine to me. I can't tell you if other options sound better because I haven't tried them, but if it sounds good to you, then why mess with it?I believe...
Woofer motion problem. I used to have these problems, as well. They resolved completely with the KAB rumble filter, which eliminates the extremely low frequencies that contribute to the woofer pumping.Michael
burning a cd with track numbers removed? Have you tried ripping the files in a lossless format and then burning two discs, with the songs split such that half of them are on one disc and the rest on the other?
So I want to rip music from internet to CDR drive There are several such sites, Magnatune.com (which allows lossless downloads in WAV or FLAC) and hdtracks.com (which offers 24/94 downloads) are two examples. You can also get higher-quality MP3's from iTunes. Check the archives for more download ...
MP3 conversion rate suggestions Tmesselt, the point of his using a lossy codec is to save space. At 320 kbps you're getting less of a size advantage relative to FLAC, which is what his original files are encoded in. So that's why I recommended the mid-range cbr settings (128-192...
MP3 conversion rate suggestions For an iphone, I imagine that a 128kbps MP3 would be perfectly adequate. After all, what equipment do you plan to hook up to the iphone? I think that MP3 files between 128 kpbs and 192 kbps is an optimal point of sound quality to file size. You'll ...
Sweetest SS preamp for Classical? I third the Classe (the older ones). Also consider a Musical Fidelity A3cr or Marsh p2000b.Is there a reason that you're limiting your search to solid state preamps? The Modulus 3a is a very well-respected preamp. Is there something about it that ...
Totem Forest Speakers..... I agree with experimenting with speaker positioning. Sometimes even a few inches can make a world of difference. Now, I'm going to propose something that's probably unpopular on Audiogon. I'm very familiar with the Totem line, as I own the Hawks an...
Help create my Mac Music Server Dmailer, I think it's important to realize that RAID 1 doesn't eliminate the need for backups. It protects you only from a hard drive failure. That's it. There is no protection from accidentally deleting files, the filesystem becoming corrupted fo...
does hdmi handle audio well? I think HDMI has the potential to transmit audio just fine. My Integra DTC 9.8 works well in decoding HDMI audio. Most pre/pro's provide the option of both HDMI and multi-channel analog inputs; why not try both and see which sounds better to you? ...
Totem Arro efficient enough for NAD C315BEE? I've had the Arro's in the past for dual 2Ch/HT use and they actually work reasonably well -- as long as you have a sub. As previously mentioned, most subs will be able to operate off both the speaker outputs as well as preouts. The Arro's image li...
Help create my Mac Music Server I agree completely with Sidssp's assessment of the G4/RAID plan, as well as his suggestion to use external HD's.Michael
Entry level tube amps? Different tube amps sound different, so I'd hesitate to have you make a decision about how a tube amp sounds based on one particular budget amp. That said, I'll give you some of my thoughts.1) For a low-budget amp, I love my Jolida 302b integrated... |
