I need an amp, can any recommend?
Your speakers are 90 db efficient and 4 ohms nominal impedance. I haven't heard that model, but the KEF speakers I have heard are reasonably bass-heavy and benefit from clean amplification.I third the suggestion of the McCormack, and would also ad...
COMPACT PHONO PREAMP?
Try a Dynavector or Parasound zPhono.Michael
Recommendation needed for Turntable
Jbhiller, did you decide which table you're going to go for? I think that the turntable/arm/cartridge mating is just as important as the speaker/amp mating, so some turntables I believe perform better than others with certain cartridges.Michael
Integrated amp with digital to analog converter?
The Music Hall Mambo fits the bill perfectly.Michael
Still liking my PSB Stratus Gold i's
Ten years ago I found the concept of spending $1000 for a pair of speakers ridiculous. What a difference a few years makes, since that was about the price of a pair of PSB Stratus Bronze's back then. Now I find the PSB Stratus series (including th...
Coaching wanted on how to get back into vinyl
To answer your question about the preamp, your current preamp is fine. Simply get an external phono stage and hook it to one of the inputs of your BP20. There are numerous external preamps that range the spectrum in price, quality, and configurabi...
Where do you buy good CD recordings?
Amazon is my #1 place for buying CD's, both new and used.Michael
Recommendation needed for Turntable
Yes, I do have the KAB Technics (with the fluid damper). Sorry I haven't updated my system on Audiogon for a while. I had previously had a Project RPM-6 turntable, and before that a Music Hall MMF-5. The Technics is head and shoulders above those ...
Recommendation needed for Turntable
Jbhiller, how does the KAB-Technics necessarily be over $1000?You can get the SL-1210MK5SE with the tonearm fluid damper system for $753 from kabusa.com. A Denon DL-103 cartridge (for example) is around $200. That's under your $1000 limit, and sho...
Need 1984 SONY CDP 701 ES repaired
I'm with Elevick; it's truly not worth trying to repair it. And I seriously doubt there are many older CD players that are "collector's items". Maybe a California Audio Labs Tempest, but that's pushing it.My advice is to simply replace it with a u...
Integrated Amp for my Audio Physic 2 speakers
I've used a Plinius 8200 and Jolida 302b to good effect with my Audio Physic speakers. The Plinius is more forceful, the Jolida more lush. It depends on your listening preferences, but both worked well.Michael
Recommendation needed for Turntable
Try a KAB-modified Technics turntable from kabusa.com with a Denon DL-103 cartridge. It will be hard to beat for under $1000 (new). I haven't personally heard the Rega but it has a very good reputation as a good bang for the buck.Michael
Information on Emotiva
I received an e-mail yesterday that the UMC-1 is available. I put my e-mail address in about a year ago for the UMC-1, and subsequently forgot about it until the e-mail yesterday. So they might be starting to fulfill the pre-orders now.Michael
How is the Oppo 983H as a 2ch Music Transport?
I have both the 983H and the CAL Delta transport and they both sound the same to my CAL Alpha DAC. But the 983H has a better interface than the Delta, is well-built, and plays DVD's better than any other player that I've ever experienced (and is a...
Need help setting up new pc audio system
Deringer, could you clarify exactly what you're trying to do? Are you seeking a decent set of speakers for your computer so you can listen to music while using your computer, or do you want to use the computer as a front-end to a larger 2-channel ...
