Need a speak/amp compatibility opinion.......
I may be fuzzy on this, but didn't Kelly design the 6 for front-wall positioning after much feedback re the too-strong bass of the 10, 8 and 7b models? If so, you might find the 6 a bit anemic out in the room. The 7b might be a better choice. Ern
Who has tried Virtual Dynamics cables?
Oops! I stand corrected! I mistakenly remembered a conversation with the guru at Virtual MODE...not Dynamics.Sorry. (Damned gingko isn't worth crap!)
tough sounds to reproduce ???
Thanks Abstract. The rebuilder who voiced my B has played near too many drummers in trios over the past couple of decades. I've managed to sell two Subies to TWO other good tuner/rebuilder/musicians (bass players) in the past year, and all three o...
I Need a Reference Point
Well, folks, he's pushin' for an answer....I found the ARCAM to be pretty neutral and extended, with a decent open midband. A slight lack of PRaT, or two left footedness, was a bit unnerving.I'm a musician who can't dance (something about anticipa...
Need help from Guru's
Hmm...I demoed the N803s, and found that they indeed need a good dozen feet to cohere. So you've got that part right. However, I found the tweeter to splash easily, so I imagine you've got to treat your room's reflection points carefully and aggres...
Aleph 3 vs Aleph 30 Volksamp
Peter at Pass says they're the same.
Near field listening and speaker placement
Was about to state Soix's point.I listen to 3-ways in a 7.5' triangle in a 14x24 room. The speakers are 8' out from the front wall.I tried several serious 3 ways (N803, N804, Ariel 8, Revel F30, VA Fidelio) before deciding upon my choice (Parsifal ...
Integrated Amps: Classe vs. Audio Refinement?
The transformer in the ARC is larger than the one in the single YBA, but smaller than the DT YBA....Decaf, Natalie....
Anybody have a technical definition for "Jitter"??
20s? 40s? I had a 1961 Bug with bent wheels that jittered a LOT at resonance (60 mph). Threw a rod on the expressway at rush hour. There's a timing error, eh?
Can POWER CORDS really make that big a difference?
Yes. I made some from Belden 83802 and good connectors, along with dedicated lines from same. The dedicated separate lines for the CDP and the pre were more important than the PCs, I think. Have fun, but DON'T spend big money here....
tough sounds to reproduce ???
Nil...huh?I have my Steinway B positioned between and a few feet behind my Parsifal Encores. I hear GREAT piano upper octaves from my EMC-1 MkII/AlephP/Aleph2s?Encore system. It's the LOWER octaves that aren't the same!A grand piano's upper octaves...
Who has tried Virtual Dynamics cables?
I spoke with Rick a two years ago about cables. He recommended using Romex 12AWG/3 for speaker cables. Join two conductors together for ground, use one for hot.He said he liked it better than all the $$ stuff, and used it in his ref system for com...
Dumb Question 36
Omit the surge protector. Odds are better than even that it's compromising the sound...especially on front end components like CDP or pre....
Completely passive audio system...
My system's full of passive-aggressive Alephs. I get TOO passive and leave them on, and they get REAL aggressive on the electric bill!
Survey-What is your most used source?
Wife, 15 yr old daughter, TV (gotta be honest),62 year old Steinway B, tuner, then by beloved CDP. Sometimes I wish the order would flip...!
