Am I the only one who thinks B&W is mid-fi?
Cdc, At the time (2001): Modded Rotel 855 on Neuance through Pass Aleph P and 2 monos. It wasn't the upstream chain, as other speakers sounded better, and equally detailed...and imaged better (better pair-matching and coherence in the nearfield). ...
My latest upgrade
Which is precisely what Porsche did with the 914, right?
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
Fpeel, I understand there's a new product called Hardwire to be marketed by Pfizer. You apply it to your cable(s) one hour before each performance, and it lasts the whole night!Cheers.
Jekyll and Hyde, aka the Audiophile/Pro Conundrum
Thanks. I hung the pre under the piano keyboard with industrial velcro, so it's impervious to conducted vibration, but certainly not airborne (shouldn't be much of a problem with ss?). The Earthworks will PROBABLY be hung from the ceiling in the B...
Pass Aleph Questions
Forgot: If your pre is a true balanced design you'll benefit from the Aleph 5 or 2s balanced operation, too!
HT Choice Aerial 10T or B&W N803?
Yes: absolutely perform an in-room demo, as at 11' you're sitting far enough back to allow them to cohere nicely, and tame the Nautilus tweeter with the power response of the entire speaker. I'm voting for the Aeriels, though. In my case, sitting o...
EMC1 mk2 vs Cary 306/200...
Fs: What great bait! Ha!So what's up with the upgrade? I had asked if J-S was willing to perform the upgrade at lower cost if a skilled end user or dealer simply sends them the affected boards instead of the 44 lb player...and got no response.Sure...
Bright room, help
Ouch!Yes, treat the sidewalls and floor first, and REGARDLESS of what you buy, but then run out and buy a decent front end!Cheap: NAD C541i at $400-500.Mid: Warm: Rega Planet 2000; Lean: Nait CD5; Neutral: ARCAM FMJ$$: Electrocompaniet EMC0-1 MkII...
Am I the only one who thinks B&W is mid-fi?
After NOT reading all the above posts, I must agree that I found the N803 WAY too bright in my room in the nearfield.Interestingly their power response was superb, as they sounded GREAT from an adjacent room! Yeah, that damned tweeter's awfully ha...
Upgrade suggestions needed
Hey...I'm from Beantown too!I'm pretty careful to avoid the line-pushing at most dealerships, and Goodwin's regard for MIT cables has irked me for a long time....Spearit (Boston) is a source for JM Labs, B&W (if you must, and sister Rotel; the...
Full range rear speakers
Hi. I just demoed a 1/2 dozen rear surround full-range wall-mountable speakers, and was shocked that most of them, while sounding quite nice in free-space, sounded thick, muffled, and awry once boundary-compensation filled them in on the wall! The...
My latest upgrade
I'm about to try an NAD C541i in a friend's entry-level ARC Integrated and Spendor SP3/1P system ($3k total). Hope it's successful. Several dealers have suggested that this $400 street price CDP is the clear winner under $1k. We'll see.Ern
B&W VS Dynaudio .........
I too am a happy listener with Parsifal Encores, which are essentially 2-way monitors with bass pedestals. The key to fine imaging with ANY speaker system is mostly in sensitivity and response-matching of the driver pairs. That simple! I was surpris...
Aurios Pro or Symphosium Rollerblock 2 ?
I find the very attractive Neuance iso/absorb shelves more cost-effective.Good Luck.
Pass Aleph Questions
Hi.Remember that the 5 is only 3 dB louder than the 3. Is that enough? What is the lowest impedence dip and phase angle of the Pro_Ac 2.5? And how loudly do you want to listen? Or is it bass dynamics that are wanting?I had to go to the Aleph 2 mon...
