Power cords for Audio Refinement system
Make your own from Scurter IEC and a good plug and some Belden 83802. Ridiculously good for the $$.
Caught in a squeeze
Was about to put my NAD 7400 up for sale, but its tuner section and 10db remote mute are so useful, that I set it up as a second system in the TV room. HT? Ha!NAD7000, 7100 and 7400 receivers are a steal used. Great tuners, fat amps, and VERY flex...
Which would you buy?
Neither. Electrocompaniet EMC-1. Period.
Against everything that high end cables stand for
Huh? The oxidation rate of copper in a controlled atmosphere is SLOWED by having the copper purer? Gimme a break, huh? The addition of other elements usually SLOWS the oxidation rate (stainless steel is a good example).Six 9s copper may LOOK shini...
Buy a hi-end CD player/transport now?
Yes. After much trepidation, I can't imagine NOT having my EMC-1 MkII! Cheap? No, but it'll be a long-term friend.
Soudstage Height?
Try tilting your speakers slightly forward or back.Verity suggested that I tilt their Encores FORWARD slightly to elevate the soundstage. This was counterintuitive, but makes some sense to me in that the tweeter's arrival time is slightly shortene...
Solid State amp with wide soundstage
I agree, Doug. The guy needs the Revel F30 fed by Aleph 2s.I found that to be a GREAT combo.
Electrical current polarity

Average age of audiophiles
"As far as I am concerned, I'm 26..." Monsieur Gregoir, I love it! Likewise, as far as I'm concerned, I'm 18. But most people say I look pretty close to my 49 1/2 years....I got bitten by the audio bug after a few preteen years as a SWL. Started f...
Audio Aero Capitole vs. Audiomeca Mphisto II
Hey Bri...remember the raves for the EMC-1 MkII? Do ya?Where's it fit in all this? Ern
What does "B-Stock" mean?
I thought the name derived either from being "non-A" stock, or a shortened form of "blem" for blemished.
Integrated Amps: Classe vs. Audio Refinement?
Natalie...c'mon. My Classe dealer SENT me to ANOTHER dealer to check out the AR Complete. Take one of each apart, and THEN decide which is mid-fi! You'd be surprised. For $1k the Complete is a wonderful, neutral, refined product.
Noise, hum and AC polarity
I rebuilt the antique pole lamp next to my listening chair( has 3 regular sockets and a HUGE centeral one for a 100/200/300 bulb. I painted the bronze trim with gold leaf paint, spent $80 on a classy shade...and sometimes noticed that when I happe...
Magnum or Fanfare Tuner. Which Sounds the Best?
I bought the MD100 because it comes with balanced outputs standard, and MDs techs said it sounded significantly better that way, so a barely used MD100 at $1100 made more sense than an Etude or Fanfare for a few hundred less.I softened the bright ...
OK - now total confusion has set in
Uh oh...another Neuance devotee lurking. Simple in some ways, but seemingly universally effective. Although I can't tell you with certainty that the Neuances under my massively built CDP (44 lb EMC-1 MKII) and pre (35 lb Aleph P) are having much o...
