The "coolest" looking system? My wife says the coolest looking system is a totally invisible one, so I got relatively diminutive Parsifal Encores, stuffed the Aleph P and MD100 tuner in the Arts & Crafts cabinet under Neuance shelves; I pose the EMC-1 CDP on top, as it DOE...
Where are you at on the curve?... Thought I was 98% there, but I just came home from 6th row center at Symphony Hall to hear Andre Previn lead the BSO in Copland's Appalachian Spring and Shostakovich No. 6The sheer acoustic power was unbelievable! I sit only 7-8' from my wonderful...
How do I bi-wire and bi-amp? CHEAPEST great way is to buy Canare S11 starquad, and use two each of the 4 conductors for each set of connections on the back of the Quad 12 you have. THEN you can muck around with designer cables later if you wish.
Best speaker stands for bookshelf speakers Plateau (canada) makes a GREAT take-off on the Targets called the v23, I believe. Can easily be had for $200 new.Sand and shot fillable, and very attractive, too. I use 'em under my Spendor SP3/1Ps.
Are you going to buy the Rolling Stones SACDs? I just bought that 40 Licks 2 CD compilation, and am surprised at how GOOD the 60s stuff sounds in my ref system!Rhythmic, punchy, raw, and human. Lots of fun.
Need help choosing new CD player Electrocompaniet EMC-1 MkII for $3k street price.
What is your most beautiful component? EMC MkII or my Parsifal Encores.
Any small speakers equal in sound to Hales Rev III Spendor S3/1p! Small, balanced, COHERENT, fast, and musical.$1400 new, $800 used.
Attention to detail Spendor S3/5 for $600 used...or better the Spendor S3/1p for $8-900 used: +4dB more efficient, with much deeper bass.I just built an entry-level system for a good friend from these Spendors and a used Complete Integrated, fed by the new NAD 541i C...
What live performances are broadcast in your area? The WGBH (89.7) live feeds from both Symphony Hall AND their own studios are superb: very well miked and without compression.OTOH the general programming on WCRB (102.5) can be SEVERELY compressed! I asked one of their broadcast engineers at a liv...
Which cone's or platforms have helped? Ken's NEUANCE shelves are an attractive, very affordable, easy-to-use system to isolate CDPs, especially. No change in spectral tilt, but trememdous improvement in clarity and coherence of low-midlevel source components. After the dramatic improve...
Review: Neuance Alpha & Beta shelf / Apollo Aria 455 rack Stand Hmmm...not sure I understand. Do you use JUST ENOUGH bubblewrap to squeeze into the gap between the Neuance and the upturned cones, but without unweighting them?If you mean to use JUST the bubbles to support the Neauance then I would predict a com...

is electro emc1 balanced? And it DOES SOUND BETTER running XLRs. Don't even consider getting one of these...especially with the Mk II 24bit/192kHz DAC unless you have a truly-balanced preamp too!
Anyone listen to the NPR jazz series cd's? No. Saw one used recently, but didn't buy it.I must say that many evenings are spent with Eric In The Evening on WGBH in Boston. With my Magnum Dynalab, or just in the car, his warmth, cheer, and utter musical knowledge continually entertains. Bravo! |
