Neuance or Z Slab shelf for Zoethecus rack???
Hi Ken. And I'll add that you had told me years ago that ADDING weight to the top of a lighter component to effectively match the larger-spec Neuance can result in a voicing change that may or may not be desirable, correct?Reasoning being that the...
bookshelf to floorstanding-real upgrade?
I like Phasecorrect's advice, but would also suggest that you get BETTER monitors, such as the new JMLabs or baby Spendors. Several NHT dealers have woefully suggested that the older Super Ones were MUCH better than the newer ones, so I'd recommen...
More questions from Chris L.
The missing gold nugget of advice hear is that you won't know anything about how speakers sound until you get them home and listen IN YOUR ROOM. I sense that you're researching brand names and construction practices. There's a LOT of history and "...
Antenna questions
Sean, you nailed this one down nicely!Yes, I'd try the RS $22 one. You can fairly easily estimate relative gain by counting element count and geometry. If the others have significantly more elements than they'll probably have more gain.....On a si...
NORDOST Internal Biwire or Shotgun, Which way ?
Phew. I started with Blue Heaven, and for a long time was satisfied with Red Dawn, until my modded CDP offered more top octave, unfortunately accentuating the Red Dawn's tendency to "click" on transient edges. Made bongos and ALL guitar strings so...
Circuit breakers and dirty power
Larry, I agree with you about the 5362. I bought a bunch of Hubbell and Pass&Seymour chocolate and vanilla ones if anybody wants any cheap. The Hubbell may be slightly sturdier than the P&S, or the Hubbell/Bryant, but ALL Hubbells and P&am...
Best CD player under $500 used?
How about a NEW NAD C541i for $400?
nad 370 upgrade
I always vote for the Audio Refinement Complete (1/2 the price of the DT), but my dealer thinks its bettered by the new UNICO hybrid integrated for $1300 list. It's a beauty, too....
Separate ground for dedicated line
Yes, except that you ALWAYS want to isolate the RF-noisy digital components from the low-level analogue (CDP, phono pre, tuner, etc.). So if you run only ONE dedicated line keep your CDP OFF it! Better to run two lines...one for digital and one fo...
Electrocompaniet EMC II CD Player
Just saw an ad for the clamp for $350..........The "focus" issue is perhaps related to the lack of the latest "UP"status. There's no question that the more-detailed top octave helps solidify soundstage artifacts. The balanced connections on the ana...
Neuance or Z Slab shelf for Zoethecus rack???
Ken claims the newer Neuances are 3dB quieter in addition to not needing upturned spikes. We'll see....
Good match for Spendor S3/5s?
The problem of course is the 84dB/w low efficiency of the 3/5 (now called the S3), Spendor makes a DOUBLE-woofer version of it marketed as a center channel speaker called the SC3. It goes lower, and plays LOTS louder due to its much higher 88-89dB...
Best CD Player for under $5,000
EMC-1 UP. Can be bought new from a guy in New York for $3300 on eBay once in awhile....
Trying to build a near ref. listening room? Help

What is next after Paradigm Studio S-40
I haven't heard the 12L, but if it's a better than the nice 11L, and has a great midband than I certainly agree with Phasecorrect, as the 11L is almost as good as the Spendor S3/5 in many ways.
