Some Good & Helpful Info Here
Thief River Falls?...wow! What's TI doing in NH? My bro escaped the Attleborough precious metals bonding division just as management decimated it via inept cronyism. And then all the layoffs. Figures. What's with this place? Is the Manchester op a...
Burn in power cord by boiling water??
If I got to "boil" with my wife more than three times in rapid succession I'd have a LOT more to worry about than how my electrical snake sounds...!
Is buildiing a HT around the speakers a good start
We're all over the place here, so I might as well chime in....Since the family room falls within my wife's perview, I had to be careful. Yet I convinced her to accept a beautiful pair of rosewood Spendor 3/1p on great-looking Plateau V23 steel sta...
Is a audiophila suicid to ship 150lbs overseas ?
Iwas thinking of shipping my too-hormonal 16 yr old 135 lb daughter to Alaska for awhile! Any really good carriers for "chilling out"?
Help me select a CD player to round out my system.
The Electrocompaniet EMC-1 UP can be had NEW for mid threes; used MkII for $2500, and older originals for teens. RSVP if you need help upgrading if you get an older one. These players have absolutely NO digital glare, and a truly analog sound with ...
Isolation transformers on CDP to reduce glare?
RSVP if you want info on better DIY PCs to try. I also found that a proper iso/absorb shelf (Neuance is my favorite) to reduce perceived glare by tightening coherence.Certainly experimenting with different ICs will help you tailor the top octaves ...
EMC-1UP vs. Cary 306/100
I love my EMC-1 UP, but would caution that its performance is significantly better with a balanced preamp. If the BAT or CAT are truly balanced designs I'd proceed. Otherwise there's too much compromise. Have fun.
Center channel speaker which excels at dialogue
See my post to your other thread. To repeat, the Spendor SC3 is a phenomenal center....
Can I get "Great" used speakers for $1800??
How about NEW Revel M20 for $1500?
Burn in time for Virtual Dynamics Cables
The P3 is simply three runs of solid 12AWG "Romex"-like conductors in cheap dielectric sitting in over a pound of S110 steel shot! I tore one apart a month ago. The 1/8" wall vinyl tubing makes it really stiff, too, and the use of ferrous magnetic...
Electrocompaniet EMC1 CDP owner's suggestions
The EMC-1 uses a truly-balanced design, and as such mine sounds better through SPM XLRs to my Aleph P also. After modding a couple for friends I can't help but notice that the XLR jacks are soldered directly to the analogue output board, too, wher...
Product Upgrades. Worth the Money?
Yes, it depends. The two relatively expensive upgrades to my Electrocompaniet EMC-1 MkII are definitely real sonically.Whether they're of good value depends upon the resolution of a system AND one's preferences. Sometimes you can perform these upg...
Cable run in burn in time
I'd tend to agree. As cable burn-in as about settling the dielectrics to their eventual extinction state (if you will), using an electronic device that may indeed damage them by overheating the active conductors is not a good idea. I'm fortunate t...
Preamps, Whats the difference, Active & Passive ?
Since a passive device has NO amplification, there's no possibility for tonal GAIN, so tone controls could only be "cuts", not "bossts". As such a treble-cut control in a passive design is not without slight merit. What's an "audio tern"?
Why an active preamp with Rock-N-Roll ?
Sometimes it's the dynamic-swing-thing!
