List some of the worst-sounding CDs you've heard, lately
I thought this could be a useful thread, given the great variability in cd sonics . . .
One guitar, or three?
While I agree that two is often better than one, for my tastes, a third is usually one too many. The degree of commitment required to listen carefully enough so as to stay out each-other's way is usually more than most guitarists can summon in suc...
“Faithful to the recording”
@immatthewj  "It seems as if every piece of gear winds up being written about in glowing orgasmic terms."  In news reporting, it's the depressing stuff that garners attention and thus, brings in ad dollars. In audio, it's the "glowing orgasmic" ...
“Faithful to the recording”
@mahgister  "From the first acoustic lived event where any seat give another perspective on the lived acoustic event, we have AFTER the independant recording process who "manipulate" by INEVITABLE choices trade-off process this acoustic event whi...
“Faithful to the recording”
@immatthewj  "maybe that's why I seldom read a review anymore, except to sometimes get specs and prices of something I find interesting". When I'm contemplating an upgrade I read/watch as many reviews as I can find, in order to glean whatever in...
“Faithful to the recording”
Perhaps such terms of praise are best viewed as a measure of the reviewer's enthusiasm rather than an accurate description of what is occurring sonically, although given that each listener perceives and judges sound differently, I'm not sure there...

@khughes  "Sample gear, listen for yourself, and find the gear that speaks to you. Learn some acoustic and treat your room. And forget about what anyone else thinks. I think you'll find that you can build a far better system, at a far more reaso...

Burning in question
@ghdprentice  I experience the same thing with my Hegel H390.
God doesn't need to know what time it is.
@mahgister  Indeed, Martino was a musician, brilliant intellectual, passionate teacher and mystic, all rolled into one.

@sokogear  Well it's better to discover him late rather than never!  If your taste's can be inferred by the players you've listed, you might enjoy "We'll  Be Together Again" (very melodic and mellow duo with keyboardist Gil Goldstein) or  "Remem...

@sokogear  "Under the radar" ? ? ? ? For those who've never listened to Jazz, perhaps.

@bdp24  I've never heard of D.  Clinton Thompson but am familiar with Foster and Lloyd. How very cool that you got to see Lucinda so early in her career. I have the DVD of her first ACL performance with that band and it serves as an excellent i...
