Best Covers @immatthewj My introduction to her was "Car Wheels..." I don't recall whether I bought the "white album" before or after having seen the ACL broadcast. I have the 2CD version that includes live performances. These two remain my favorite L. Wi...
Those rare albums that are great on first listen. Not sure how you are defining "great", but if a CD doesn't make a strong positive impression the first time I hear it, I pass. If I were a person who often changed their opinion of music after initially disliking it, that could warrant a different...
Best Covers EmmyLou Harris: "Together Again": "There are only two kind of men walking this earth, those who are in love with Emmylou and those who have yet to meet her"
Best Covers @bdp24 Mary Gauthier is very talented but what dark material! I tend to think of Gurf as mostly a sideman but clearly I need to explore further... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_1i8q9WYpc
Best Covers @immatthewj It's the first ACL show from 1989 -- where her hair is blonde and she's playing with the original band. Gurf Morlix on guitar. I had it on DVD at one point. The complete performance was taken down, apparently and I can only find t...
Can you tell the difference between a $200 and a $200,000 guitar? @mglik If one must have a Brazilian + European spruce guitar, it's bound to be very expensive. Plenty of top guitarists "make do" with less stratospherically priced tonewood combinations and plenty of them play guitars that sell for under 15K....
Can you tell the difference between a $200 and a $200,000 guitar? How many musicians can afford a $200, 000 guitar? Those are strictly for collectors. 7K will get you a wonderful instrument. 2K used will get you a very good one. @soix Not "dumb" !
Dickie Betts died earlier today at 80 years of age @muzikat Saw the original Band many times in 1970-71. You lucky dog!
Jazz Recording Sessions Engineered by Roy DuNann @mahgister , @tablejockey Thanks for all the links. Discogs seems to be the most complete and easy to access. I listened to Art Pepper's "Intensity" last night. I couldn't remember when I'd last spun this disc, but man, did it sound good. I ...
Noir album recommendations @dayglow Terence Blanchard followed Wynton Marsalis both New Orleans born but Wynton is an impossible act to follow. I prefer Woody Shaw but can't think of any of his recordings that might satisfy the OP's specific parameters.
An Inspired Meeting: Haynes and Scofield jam on Allman Bros' "Dreams" You're welcome!
Best music in 2024 @bdp24 Rodney also wrote a memoir (Chinaberry Sidewalks), which can be viewed as a companion piece. Well worth reading!
An Inspired Meeting: Haynes and Scofield jam on Allman Bros' "Dreams" BTW, there are other performances on youtube, from the same gig: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6WAatVwDzM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zgv66ajYwec
An Inspired Meeting: Haynes and Scofield jam on Allman Bros' "Dreams" @bigtwin I'll check that one out. I'm mostly familiar with his "straight" Jazz recordings. Two of my favorites are "Meant To Be" with Joe Lovano and the tribute to Miles cd on Verve Joe Henderson recorded late in his career... "So Near So Far...
Market Stabilization? @grislybutter Well, it's hard not to respond to such outbursts. @soix +1 |
