PASS LABS X150.8 AMP to McIntosh MC462?
I wouldn't make the move if it were me.  You even say you love the Pass...  Deal with the heat if you must.  You must have a VERY small listening space..   Wait for the winter to listen?

I had a Nak 1000 ll. I thought the sound was quite good...don't  know why I left it behind

I used to own an Ampzilla which had a fan...never quiet enough

My Ayre k1xe is quiet.....even with the volume up on phono, ear to the speaker.....nuttin. 
Stylus not tracking and sounds terrible
I tried my VPI on a Gingko platform....knew the manufacturers well...nice guys....but the platform ruined the sound of the VPI.  Let Soundsmith take a look at your cartridge. 
Listening sessions
I'm  retired too, but you have to get out.  Take violin or flute lessons, get to Yoga class, volunteer, etc.

In its day it was the best out there.   I suspect it still is better than lots of them.  I always have had the best luck with the same brand ...they were designed around each other.  (I now have all Ayre)
