Cartridge upgrade for VPI Scout
Mekon56...... VPI's need a solid platform to appreciate its qualities. If the elimination of the Gingko made the sound worse in the way you describe, you need a more solid table, shelf, etc. that it sits on. Harry recommends a solid butcher block ...
Tips for setting VTF on VPI Classic?
I have found that removal of the small weight on the inside of JMW tonearms make the arm/cartridge sound better. Perhaps because of elimination of resonance, vibration, etc. Anyway, if you get in the ballpark of your needed weight, you can use sma...
Morrow SP1 or SP2 cable vs Speltz Anti-Cable?
I am using all Ayre electronics with long balanced interconnects and very short speaker cables that are not twisted. The sound is coming from Vandersteen 5A's...very wide and deep...at least as good as any other cables I've tried. I am using Accro...
Morrow SP1 or SP2 cable vs Speltz Anti-Cable?
I tried as many cables for my system as I could get my hands on...Kimber Silver, Purist Anniversary, Audioquest Everest/Sky, Cardas, etc., etc., etc. I didn't try Morrow, but Anti-Cables were either the best or no preference to the best I could find.
To buy or not to buy a used cartridge?

Have you tried the Scout off of the Gingko?

The best stylus cleaner I know is a hunk of Mr. Clean Magic Eraser....get a lifetime supply for a couple of bucks at your local supermarket.
Class "D" amp? I do not have a clue. Do you?
Regarding Class D application and DC offset...I discussed this with Richard personally, and just found a pertinent entry on the Vandersteen website...in the technical section. You have to wade through lots of entries, but you will find the DC offs...
Ortofon A90 with Graham Phantom
I say that if the cartridge doesn't fit as intended with the "bumps" positioned in the headshell, you are defeating its intended design by "making it fit". Those bumps I am sure are there for the same reason you put cones under your preamp. I woul...
Class "D" amp? I do not have a clue. Do you?

Class "D" amp? I do not have a clue. Do you?
..careful...you can ruin some speakers with some Class D amps. (DC offset)
An Informal Assessment of Anti Cables
I am using Anti-Cables with Vandersteen 5A's. When I was experimenting with the speaker cables, I found that (for my system anyway) twisting the cables closed in the sound somewhat. With the Vandersteen's, I also have 4 cables to each speaker, but...
Monster Cable Alpha - 1
...that's very hard to believe.....
Audioquest Sky XLR vs Kimber Select 1130
Yes...Sky XLR is one of the best cables...however, you should make your own decision based on hearing it in your system.
Cardas Golden Ref vs Anti IC vs Straley Reality IC
I went from Cardas to Anti-Cables. When I bought my system, my dealer, and everyone else told me that with my components, Cardas was the natural choice. I had them in my system when a friend brought over a Purist interconnect. What I discovered wa...
