Try to hear what Vandersteen and Magnepan offer before you write a check....If you are in New Jersey, Audioconnection has them both.
Looking for opinions on Tannoy Prestige line.
I have not heard the "audiophile" series of speakers mentioned above....however, I just have heard Tannoy speakers in an auditorium I just played in, ....not only I, but many members of the orchestra remarked how wonderful the sound was....it had ...

I have some for sale on Audioassylum...I needed longer runs for my new house.
Speltz anti-cables and Vandersteens.......
I tried Kimber, Audioquest, Purist, Nordost, etc., etc. None were better, most were not nearly as good as Anti-Cables. ..funny thing....Audioquest Sky/Everest was also great, but their superexpensive WFL signature was awful.

Can magnet placed beside cartridge damage a coil?
A high energy magnet would ruin the cartridge by demagnetizing the cartridge's magnet which folows as to your description of the problem. Moving magnet cartridges need both sides equal - equally muscular magnet - to get proper balance.
