THE LITTLE BLACK BOX, 399.00 ABSOLUTLY NUTS
there are those that are badmouthing the VPI uni pivot arm.   I strongly suggest you get the 2nd pivot modification.   It is a very large upgrade to the sound, and ease of azimuth adjustment.  Highly recommended.
Shahinian Obelisk vs VandersteenTreo
I had a similar trouble with my 5A Vandersteens. I sent the driver to Vandersteen who said they were fine (not what you want to hear). After pulling the tweeter, et al, I sent back the crossover and amp. It seems that in pulling the crossover, I a...
Looking to get into tubes on the cheap
You can't get tubes on the cheap.  They are inherently more expensive.  Unless you can pay the way, go solid state....better bang for the buck on sanely priced equipment.
Confused!
Try this.....take 2 of your coats ....place one each on the floor in front of your speakers.   If you like the sound, get a couple of inexpensive rugs instead of the coats.
Power Wedge 116
My best advice for the Power Wedge is to use it as a door stop...but get it out of your system.
Cartridges: Complete Scam?
I agree with Randy-11 (above).  however, even though there may not be a dramatic step up, the difference may very well be appreciated in the listener.  Also, the cartridge has to be set up to its best advantage, and all the ancillary equipment mus...
Tekton Double Impacts
anxiously awaiting your evaluation.....  try hard to be objective.   Everyone thinks what they have is the tops.   Understand that it will take a while before it sounds right....getting the room set up, etc.  I know its fun.
Demo Windfeld Ortofon Cart at Musicdirect
I use a Winfield for my every day cartridge....it’s very good, but setup is critical. Be very precise in the azimuth adjustment....it can make or break the sound. You also should experiment with loading...(I use 1000 ohms, but you might like somet...
Power Conditioner Advice please...
I have used PS, but go "commando" for my taste. It takes me awhile to adjust to the new sound, but once the warts are revealed, I simply can not tolerate them. Try it, but have a return option if it doesn’t please your system. Power cords do make ...
VPI vs. SOTA
proper azimuth adjustment is even more important than proper VTA
Not much discussion around MBL
When I heard them they sounded very colored......  a wwII German tank
My Home Speakers, My Car, and Me...The Ballad of What's Going Wrong?
..just for the halibut, put a rug in the very front of your speakers....if you don't have 2 small rugs, use overcoats or similar.
Another Free Tip That Yields Better Sound!
I've posted the glasses thing a few years ago....its true.   Another thing is if you don't have carpet, put a small rug in front of each speaker.
Vandersteen fans..need your input (TREO CT)
John Rutan from Audio Connection is right.   I don't have little rugs to put in front of my Vandersteen 5A's, but used heavy coats from my time in New Jersey (now live in Scottsdale, Arizona).  The difference with/without coats is remarkable.....m...
A visit to the (Audio) Doctor
..then there's John Rutan at AudioConnection in New Jersey.  Don't let an additional experience pass you by.  The more you find out the better.
