If you're REALY interested in getting the best sound and to keep the neighbors happy.....get high end earphones with a dedicated amp.  You'll have all bases covered.

Now, I'm confused.
My advice is to check your setup.  Touch base with John Rutan the ultimate Vandersteen guru....at AudioConnection in New Jersey.  He is very friendly, willing to advise, and the best.

I’m using a K1xe pre with a V1xe amp....the sound is fabulous. ....you really need a better cartridge. ..not a blue...... all warts will be exposed. Antiskate is a non issue. Perhaps your turntable could use better alignment, but a meaningful one ...

Slaw....I hear the "metallic" sound from all sources.   I tried many mats and insist my bare Classic platter is best for me.

Re: Cryo'd metal......pro musicians I know cryo'd their trumpets, trombones, sax's etc.  to find (what they tell me) is a more "pure" sound.
