Prefered Freight Company
Sorry to hear about CF. If you palletize - mark the freight load X boxes on palate -do not accept if pallet load is broken.Movers are tempted to break up loads to fit more stuff into their trailer - indicating how many boxes on the pallet and tell...
Prefered Freight Company
If they are still around - Consolidated Freightways - used to do a great job of getting speakers to us. What can really effect your price is what "tariff" they are listed under - the freight companies don't consider it their business to help you f...
B&W 801 series 80 batteries?
The only way to tell would be by bypassing one speaker's protection circuit and leaving one stock - playing a mono signal and rolling the balance control.Personally _ I'm not interested - simply because I am more concerned with keeping 'em working...
B&W 801 series 80 batteries?
Geting at the battery is pretty easy.1.) Use a coin to loosen and remove the bolt that goes down thru the center of the head. It's got a fairly long thread on it - so when completly loosened you'll be able to simply pinch it with your fingers and ...

Have a old LG CRT hidef TV that can only feed audio out via Toslink - this goes into the Marantz pre-pro - which gets me a volume control and mute button - something my Benchmark doesn't offer via remote.Very focused on the best LP playback i can ...
B&W 801 series 80 batteries?
Here's how they work.First thing - series 80's are not a APOC as used in later 801's and other B&W's. The 80's protection circuit is powered by the battery. If you beat the guts out of this speaker ( with a 9V battery installed) - the speaker w...
See if you can "predict" a future ground loop hum?
Wouldn't get too exercised about this potential problem just yet.Your new home was wired by a electrician who understood what you were looking to do with this room? He should have been careful to get the grounding right. Don't know how old the exi...
B&W 801-series 80 Q's?
Here's what I've learned:1.) The batteries are available - about 16 bucks each. You can use a 9V "transistor" battery and a couple of alligator jumper clips to test the protection circuit. Still haven't been able to find a schematic of how this wo...

Have added a pair of very old B&W 801/series 80's ( first generation -not ported-no matrix) and the pair of GFA-555se's run bridged.-for CD use either a old Sony DVD changer or even older Marantz DR-700 fed into Benchmark DAC .Analog stuff is ...

Minor update: While chasing ground loops -I gave the balanced inputs another chance. Not sure what's changed - but I am now very happy with what's comin in thru the balanced inputs. And at least i don't have to waste time with poor connections on th...
New Adcom GFA-555 se - Special Edition
My pair of 555se's came in - have a few hours in listening to them ( mostly driving the B&W 801/s-80's). Initial impression : 1.) despite being prejudiced in favor of balanced lines - the balaanced inputs on these do not sound good in my syste...

Agree with Mjcint -somehow the actual weight of the amp and 200W X 2 class A seems unlikely. Still -found a couple new at a good price -so I ordered two to drive subs.

Got two matched quads of re-issue/recreate (Russian) Tung-Sols from Jim McShane for my ARC D-90b. Very happy with them - not outrageously expensive . Daily use amp - so these have picked up about 500 hours in a relatively short time - still stable...
