Correlation between tube bias and hiss? Agreed...retube. You will not really have a problem if the old tubes are okay because you will eventually need the new set regardless. The intermittent hiss could come from other parts, but it is next to impossible to replace them easily. Another ...
Buying a used amp for $2500 with out auditioning First of all, the cj and the bryston 4B-ST will not cost anywhere near $2500 used. A 4B-SST might cost closer to that amount. You'd also do well to get two used 7B-ST monos for that price, but it might happen. I'm not familiar with the Canton spea...
Review: Thiel Audio CS-2 Speaker I have owned CS 2s for 17 years and they have mated well with c-j electronics (PV-5, PV-6 and PF-1 preamps, MV-75a1 and Premier 11 amps) and bryston amps. No problems of merit.I have had rather large rooms with allow placement well away from walls...
Which Amp for Magnepan MG 3.6/R? Bryston 4B-STs sounded good at my brother-in-laws during a recent audition. He had used c-j Premier 11s previously and I liked that combo too. A bigger tube amp would work better though. CAT preamp used.
Tube Phono Stage Used $600-$1000 I'm dying to check out the Manley Steelhead unit....
Small room big amp, need speakers Thiel 1.6s may work....or even the 2.3s, but they may overload the room. The small Vandersteens (2ce) may work too. I'm not sure about Magnepans (1.6s) in such a small space though, but they would be worth trying. The amp will be overkill however....
Really need Amp advice. Used conrad johnson tube preamp and used Bryston 3B-ST should cost under $1300 easily. The amp will have 15-18 years left on the warranty. You can sub for the preamp with other brands aklso and still not pay an arm and a leg.
HELP: I need a solid state amp with a tube sound I've owned conrad johnson tube amps for 14 years...and so has my brother-in-law...other than retubing and replacing the on-off switch...no hassles. My formerly owned solid state amps from Hafler and Carver went to the shop more frequently (once ea...
Here's how a CD copy of a copy can sound better Matt...try it and then go have a liten with volume levels as closely matched as possible....then tell us what you think?
Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" Addenda to prev. post... the first and second CD on the Montreaux Live boxset was not great sound, but it was a 1973 recording...so in retro...sounds decent. The remaining 18 sound very good for live recordings of electronic jazz.Did anyone hear t...
did my wife harm my speakers? Usually our amps when overdriven or malfunctioning fry our tweeters/crossovers and it is usually all to obvious when this has happened, so relax if it is not obviously damaged. Most equipment is probably designed to survive these minor disasters. ...
Shipping tube amps, leave tubes in or out? Why risk it? Tubes out and securely packed...the same way conrad johnson ships the amp.
Thiel 3.6 and 'grounding' / insulating Mine seem to sound better 8 feet apart as opposed to 5 feet apart. Toe in mainly if your are having problems with early reflections from sidewalls. Did you try the Sistrums? I'm curious about those devives after reading the thread. I just got my 3...
Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" Cannonball Adderley's "Something Else" CD/LP was recorded around the same time with almost the same band and I prefer that recording to KOB. Also Miles' "Milestones" is better to my ears. Neither of those two has been remastered 99 times like KOB....
Proac Future point Five vs Thiel 2.3- Opinions I have not heard the ProAc product, but for a few moments in a showroom. I liked them alot. I think they were Model 3s or something like that. Not cheap. The Thiel is mighty fine! The c-j and Aragon should serve it well. I use c-j and Bryston main... |
