Bryston owners: What speakers are you using?
Thiel 3.6 currently and Thiel 2s previously...Bryston 3B-ST.
Suggestions for Thiel and Conrad Johnson tube amp
I long used Thiel CS2s and a c-j MV-75a. I still have the c-j amp. I mainly drive my 3.6s with Bryston now. My guess is the CS 2 2s will give you better bass than the 1.5s, though nothing super. My general experience with the Thiel line is that ea...
Which artists do you just not get?
Kenny G for starters. Late career John Coltrane, Arthur Blythe, Regina Carter, Roland Shannon Jackson, Ornette Coleman, Kenny G (almost any of the instrumental pop called smooth jazz is awful!) and Holly Cole come to mind. Strangely I love Ornette...
Current Thiel and Aerial owners-- please comment..
We replaced Thiel CS2s (1985) with Thiel CS3.6s (2002). Wife strongly prefers the 3.6s. Sons also agree. Nice to have some bass. No problems driving them with Bryston 3B-ST or C-J MV-75a amps. Pondering the CS6s however. The main improvement is im...
Who are the Jazz Cats on Audiogon?
count me in, though I listen more to the new releases than the older classics.
Let's forget about being politically correct
cj PF-1 and cj MV-75a1....sounds good to me. Things were too mushy with a tube preamp in my price range way back when. I also use a Bryston 3B-ST.
boyfriend is getting on my way
What do your ears tell you? Not all people hear alike. What sounds better to him may not be any better to you. Feel free to tell b/f that you do not hear an improvement worthy of giving up a great warranty for if that is the case. And when compari...
Home HiFi better than Live?
I enjoy both experiences. I listen more to my home system and car system, but I've reached higher levels of enjoyment in the live concerts. Miles Davis (1974 and 1986), Micheal Brecker (1990), Santana (1973, 1999 and 2000), Tower of Power (1972), ...
How did you hear about Audiogon?
I HEARD about the site a few years ago...from my brother-in-law, but did not check it out until I stumbled across the link in Stereophile's Links2die4 section last fall.
How to respond to those who say it's not a hobby?
Timing is everything. If money is not a problem then go ahead and FINISH your system and plan on living with it a few years. If you do have a BUDGET and she feels it is not time, then wait. You really do not need to justify your interests in audio...
Dynaudio Speakers
Value is relative to what you want, need and can afford. I do not think 85k is a good value because I can not afford the price no matter how good they sound. I strongly suspect I will never be able to afford that price. I might be able to squeeze ...
Audio CD-R's versus regular CD-R's?
I think audio CD-Rs work (ie. record) in standard home audio Decorders whereas regular CD-Rs will not. Sinceyou are using a computer CD-burner and not a standard home audio CD recorder to steal your music you will also be able to save on the price...
Gershman RX-20 /Thiel's 2.3's:Too Soft or Bright??
If the Thiels sounded bright, then your audition may not have shown them at their best. In general, I have not felt the Thiels to be bright and own a pair currently. I owned CS2s from 1985 till a recent upgrade to CS3.6s. I've listened to all thei...
Speakers for Bryston 4B-SST
Thiel CS6, CS3.6, CS2.3 depending on your preamp and source components not being to dry and bright.
Your experience with Thiel 3.6
Jcatral14 if you think you might ever move again and possibily have a bigger listening room..go ahead and get them. they will probably work in the room you have if your ceiling is not too low. You might need a lot of placement flexibility though...
