How can I get back into vinyl very cheaply?
Of all the items to be shipped I suspect turntables are the most easily damaged so do emphasize double boxing, etc IF you buy a used TT from out of town. I personally would not buy a TT that had to be shipped.
Have you ever deceived your wife-audio purchase
No...but I've purchased jewelry and handbags galore of nearly equal value a few times. My wife loves music so often she likes the upgrades IF we can afford not to charge it.
Laid back, mellow, sax/jazz
Almost anything from Stan Getz' extensive in print catalog.
Classe CA-200/201 or Aragon 8008ST/BB
A little "brightness" might be handled more cost effectively with different interconnect cables and speaker wires.
Your experience with Thiel 3.6
post script....Thiel has been great with support for both speakers and I've basically had a 17 year relationship with the company. Warranty repairs on the CS2s went well. Questions over the years have all been answered within 48 hours. Excellent s...

Your experience with Thiel 3.6
I moved up from Thiel CS2s to a used pair of 3.6s recently.I enjoy them without any regrets. I had listened to the speaker on and off over the past 10 years before making the purchase. My brief personal experience is that they are more challenging...
Can you ever have too much power?
I do not clearly remember the formula, old age is setting in on the brain cells, but to double your sound level output, in general terms, don't you need 10 times as much power? So...going from a 100 watter to a 250 watter really does not greatly i...
Bryston owners ONLY
I posed a similar question a few weeks ago only it was whether to buy and bridge a second 3B-ST or buy a 4B-ST or two 7B-STs. The concensus was that the speakers' load was the issue since Bryston did not rate the bridged 3B-ST at 4 ohms. My speake...
What do in store listening tests prove?
The two biggest variables you will encounter relate to software and room effects. These are even more significant if you are purchasing full range speakers. You can minimize the software variable by taking your own CDs/LPs, but you probably can no...
I'm depressed, my system hurts my ears. Please help
If you have a good relationship with a dealer or fellow musicophile/audiophile see if you can borrow some amp/preamp combo (preferrablyfrom the same manufacturer to eliminate the chances of a mismatch) to audition for an evening. If everything sou...
HELP Why no bass? Why bright?
You made no mention of your room or what you like to listen to by the way. See if you can find a Stereophile test CD and check your system's bass response. If the B&Ws are performing sorta close to spec then you really do not have a SYSTEM pro...
High end vs internet
Manufacturers like to give dealers "territory". Problem is...I have a computer, a car and absolutely no respect for price fixing schemes of this nature. Without considering mail order sales, ceteris parabis, price is first, service is second and a...
Retail Buying - Reality Check
The problem seems to be double sided as you stated, but it is probably one sided if you think of what is involved from your standpoint. The dealer has what he/she wants to sell at the price they wish to sell at. You have your hard earned money. Th...
Recommended Carrier for Speaker Shipments
Roadway handled a pair of Thiel 3.6s very nicely from L.A to L.A (Louisville area)...charge extra for residential delivery. One box was slightly smashed, but speaker was just fine due to excellent packing, etc.
